I often feel intimidated to actually post stuff on here. Anyone ever feel that? I mean of course, the community here is really nice and the people are super helpful, but sometimes just looking at sketchbooks pwn some of my fully done artworks kind of dampens the spirit. lol sorry if i sound whiny, but i was just wondering how many spirits shared similar sentiments.. or have in the past anyways D:

Melissimo, many people have/do feel that way. If you browse through the sketchbooks section you will find a very wide range of abilities or experience.

Holy shit. That made me feel a hundred times better. By far. Thank you so much. Sorry was suffering a little lapse over there. I guess the intimidation factor is what makes progression such a victory :)

I was lurking around for a couple years and had a temporary burst of courage that I decided to run with. I'm just really shy and on other sites it seems artists think I'm not good enough to talk to. I've gotten the opposite reaction here. This place actually makes me want to learn and I actually read intelligent posts for once instead of ones that make me wish I could somehow unsee things.

Try and view other people's works who are better than you in a way that sparks you to try and do better yourself. In my own personal experience, if you start viewing everything you see as a form of inspiration instead of a form of depression, then you might learn a lot more and improve a lot faster.

Yea, don't be afraid of what people will think. I remember i was when i first started posting, but then i saw that same exact sketchbook, Mindcandyman's, and i wanted to see that progression.
Once you start posting for a few months and see your own subtle progress, your thirst for improvement will begin to grow. It will begin as a whisper, telling you to go draw. The whisper will grow louder, and louder, forcing you to educate yourself in all areas academically tied to furthering your talent. The voice will grow louder and louder over time as you update your sketchbook and keep seeing improvement until it's an angry, furious storm of relentless infatuation of all things created by the perception of light. Your ravenous mind will begin to devour any and all forms of knowledge, you will eat, breathe, and sleep art.
The sun will rise and set in the name of creativity in your mind until you push yourself beyond your own limits into a realm you never thought yourself capable of going. You will continue to grow as an artist, fueled by the progression seen in your sketchbook; the comments always pushing you further and further to go past the point of no return, further and further until your vision of reality has consumed your mortal brain entirely and you are but a shadow of your former self. All because you created a sketchbook and seeked improvement and crossed that threshold being the fear of inferiority that will always exist... so go do it, please. Make a sketchbook. You won't be sorry.
Epic music to go along with this post:

LOL That was one epic post by Zealot. Thanks so much for your encouragement guys :))) And I do have a sketchbook... Im actually in a slump right now since I haven't sketched in months..... seems like life took over... and I have literally no idea where to start sketching from. I need like a foundation to push myself into the ever-loving arms of everything that is art D:
PS: Did you mean a sketchbook thread on CA.org? or an actual sketchbook? D:

I meant a sketchbook thread. I mean, have a sketchbook too, but a sketchbook thread won't get lost and should presumably track your progress forever. Just draw whatever inspires you, or whatever you like drawing, and do in in a matter where you will learn while you are doing it. If you like drawing monsters, keep an anatomy book at your side for reference, if you like painting, print out some pages of people who inspire you and keep them near where you draw. Oh and put your sketchbook link in your signature so we can go check it out.

It regularly happens that i'll browse a sketchbook thread that makes my heart drop watching how talented that person is. The first thing i always think then is that i should just throw all my ambitions towards art out the window and pick stamp collecting instead. But then look at my own work, notice at least some improvement, and decide that it is worth it to keep fighting all that ego (because that' all it really is) and keep drawing. So you really don't need to be intimidated and post your work here, no matter how bad you think you are compared to others. The only way is up baby!

If sketchbooks make you nervous, museums are going to drive you insane!

its not the art side that intimidates me..its the childish way some people react to comments or taking the discussion way too confrontational than it should be.
also a lot of times I feel if i were to speak my mind fully and openly someone would be offended and throw in an arsy reply..
as a forum browsed by potential employers i wouldnt feel confortable knowing someone i've applied to is reading through this kind of stuff, even if they were to agree with my position. its makes it open to misunderstandings and it could give the wrong impression about the person..
i'd probably be better taking off forum links from my cv and using the swanky deviantart portfolio instead of ca's.

Im soooo glad I got over the feeling of intimidation and started posting. My drawings were pretty bad, no comments to begin with - as if everyone was avoiding eye contact. I decided to press on regardless which helped me to relax and my drawings improved a little. When people started to comment, I really appreciated it and I really listened to their advice. This made my drawing improve more and so on - more advice, more improvement.
My drawings are still very rough but Id never have improved without the good citizens of ConceptArt.
Just start posting and dont think of it as such a big deal, you wont regret it. :)

I'm still struggling with that. Hopes it goes away with more skill *goesdraw*

I deal with this quite a bit. If I have art decent enough to post in my sketchbook and post in there often, I feel like I deserve to be able to post. When I haven't posted anything in a while, the intimidation comes back. I've been on a writing binge lately working on a comic series script so my art has been put on the back burner.
I like to pretend CA doesn't exist while I'm writing, it makes me feel less guilty about my drawing habits. I need to work on being able to do both.

I remember being a little self conscious about my art, till I saw "insect battle".
Seriously look up that thread, you'll never feel insecure about posting anything here ever again
