OMG!!!!!! Yes, yes, yes!!!!!! I'm going to dream about this.
Just a question: when does something go from tractor to truck to tank? Does it have to have an agricultural purpose?

Hey guys, I really need to post a final soon keep missing the chance :(
anyways was thinking about tractors and put together a idea sheet to add to the already large image stockpile we have going!
thanks to everybody for the images, really helping me finalize my design.
July 29th, 2009, 12:55 PM
hey man I like the idea but at the moment the wheels\hover thingys look as though they are facing the camera and not attached to the tractor maybe if you made them more oval like, for example ;
July 29th, 2009, 05:33 PM
Hehe great to see so many sketches in here already :)
Pixie Trick: Tractor in generally means 'to pull' I think, though I haven't really bothered to look it up I have to admit. It doesn't have to be an agricultural tractor though.

Thanks for all the ref guys. I pulled out the International Harvester tractors book as well as the Massey-Ferguson tractors book and had some fun. Mid 30s-mid 40s had some pretty funky things going on. Check this thing out- Picture (http://www.antiquewhs.com/1996012-5.jpg)
My thoughts so far. R= reffed.

Ok so I'm getting there, trying to get back into photoshop, spent so much time with pencils feels a bit odd :(
I'm hoping my subject is ok, I went for an old abandoned tractor that now has been put into use as a drag racer and has been painted pink!
I call it DRAGTOR :)

Hey again sorry I should have posted this in my last post but I have a question,
I was wandering how people go about creating a realistic texture for the metal bodywork?
Mine is looking very plastic and boring :(
Thanks in advance if you can pass on any tips :yayca:

Tiniest of updates before I go to sleep...
Night all :)

Some work. Thinking of naming it something like Panther P-01. :P
Bagg: You might want to make sure that both the front and back tires touch the ground at the same spot. Currently the back tires are lower than the front.

August 4th, 2009, 01:02 PM
WIP. I'm not sure about the final layout, but here's a rough. Does the extra 'paint' around the edges look charming or messy? Crits always welcome.
August 4th, 2009, 03:19 PM
Pixie Trick : Cool design :) ok well I think I'm gonna go for charming I like it works well!
August 5th, 2009, 12:09 PM
started over again, could use some help deciding wich one to develop further.
August 5th, 2009, 01:02 PM
Benza: OMG your designs are so good, Just wandering how you get them to look so awesome ?
If I'm being forced to pick though I really like the idea of the top one, the one in the Caribbean or some other tropical country :)
August 5th, 2009, 02:21 PM
The second is my fave. Nice designs.

This Traktor is inspired by your work!!!!!!11eleven
August 5th, 2009, 03:11 PM
Thanx, glad someone liked them. I think itīs hard to get response at this forum, so any crits are welcomed. I like the first one too, but it seems almost finished, so the second one will be more of a challenge. Think alot of the work here is cool in itīs own style.
August 5th, 2009, 09:14 PM
Managed to get a descent combo of the two at the top-
calling this finished, for now.
Pink is not a fun colour.. but the bigger the challenge.
August 6th, 2009, 04:49 PM
Here's a quick silly sketch.
Don't think I'll be able to finish this up -- but I had to get the idea out.

odin's fury: I really dig this pig tractor, very funny.
Benza: Is that a photo in the background? It contrasts a bit too much with your lines. The grassbrush also distracts too much from your tractor.
Since Yoitisi defined a tractor as 'something that pulls' i kinda added other inspirations to my idea. Here's the pink stuff:
August 7th, 2009, 03:21 AM
thanks for the crits, it isnt a photo in the background. but I understand what u mean with your comment. See if I get time to render the design a bit further,
or maby just make the whole image
August 7th, 2009, 09:39 AM

August 9th, 2009, 06:25 AM
Rezeroth: Don't forget to post yours in the Finals thread! I'm going to close it soon-ish (couple of hours...).
August 9th, 2009, 07:25 AM
Just wondering... are we supposed to post a WIP here first before we post our final in the finals thread? Or can we go ahead and post our final there right away? Or maybe we have to post here to enter the IDW mini challenge?
August 9th, 2009, 07:48 AM
NR43: The posting of WIPs is much appreciated, and gives people the opportunity to give you some input on your progress if you want it. However, you can just post your final in the Finals thread if you want. You don't have to sign up up front for this activity :)
August 9th, 2009, 08:36 AM
yoitisi Thanks for your quick help. Really appreciated.
Too late to finish it in time (it's sunday here already), but I'll finish it the next couple of days anywayz coz I'm having a blast with this and learning PS at the same time for painting (I'm a painter user, really)
My concept is based on a pink cadillac from the 50s or 60s.
Wanted to implement some of the typical features of those vintage cars.
August 11th, 2009, 05:13 AM
High time to close this thread. I keep having to apologize for being late with this, one of these days I'll be so annoyed with myself I'll actually close this on time I promise :)
