Since it's on damn near every other website, thought I should bring it here;
At&t blocks 4chan (http://stormen.wordpress.com/2009/07/27/att-blocks-4chan/)
Like or hate the site, people are saying this is the beginning of the attempted censorship of the internet. Of all the places to start, of all the internet groups to get riled up...

As horrible of a site as /b/ is, this is just plain censorship.

That sucks. I believe that Comcast already censors many sites. Nothing we can do about that...they are businesses that provide internet service and they can block whatever they want regardless of the "freedom of speech" rule. The big internet providers are taking businesses from smaller businesses and taking control over internet. Pretty soon internet will be commercialized and regulated like cable tv.

if they blocked /b/ then it must be because of what goes on there, but then if they know what goes on there they should know it is not a good idea to block /b/
its honestly going to be interesting to see which direction this goes in! 4chan will probably take their usual route and harass the hell out of them, and at&t will try and pursue legal action, which could go either way given the tricky nature of the internet

First they came for the pedophiles, and I did not speak up, because I was not a pedophile.
Then, they came for the pirates, and I did not speak up because I was not a pirate.
Then they came for anonymous, and I did not speak up because I was not anonymous.
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak up for me.

That is not right, I'm no 4chan fan
But seriously, if someone wants to look at /b/
and desensitize themselves to anything and everything
Its their choice....

WTF is /b/??
An "anonymous" image posting board where people can say almost anything they want. Imagine the most horrible, insensitive, racist, sexist, debaucherous things you could ever say, and then multiply the severity by 10. It's also the source of many lulz and internet memes...so yeah. XD

WTF is /b/??
It's a site that represents the true nature of human beings. It's a horrible place to get comfortable in, but censorship is the root of all evil.

Heh, the Partyvan Wiki (their raid and chaos planning site) seems to have done down due to the international pressure of angry nerds. Shine on, anonymous. Go get'em.

apparently it was to mitigate a DDoS attack. lulz. i'm not certain if that is confirmed, though.
edit: from http://tech.slashdot.org/story/09/07/27/054230/ATT-Blocks-Part-of-4chan?from=rss
Update: 07/27 09:23 GMT by T : Readers' comments below suggest that a) the purpose of the block was to curtail the effects of a serious DDoS attack and b) that the block has now been lifted, at least for some regions.

When you have a walled institution full of voluntary "inmates" in an otherwise happy city, where all the dregs of society congregate to irritate and piss on each other, the first thing you DO NOT DO is lock the doors and throw tear gas into the place. All you've actually done is gotten thousands more people who originally didn't give a damn all riled up and involved who suddenly care more about a potential attack on their OWN rights than they do about the meatheads in their private clubhouse.
How simple a concept is this to grasp?
