I have been doing concepts for my Half Life 2 mod lately . It's not going to be huge but it should be fun and original . I plane to use it as my portoflio for getting into the game industry . Here are a few of the character concepts I have started . Opinions welcomed !! Thanks !!

Nice, but the monster isnt very scary, in fact, hes comical, like those villians on scooby doo that are always smiling to much:D

Well being that the mod is going to take about 6-8 months to finish and thw game is coming out in a few months it'll be out long after the game has been released ya know ? Kinda like companies making games for the Playstation 3 before it is actually for sale...make sense ??

What I would like to know is if this concept is at the quality that someone might see for a character design at a game company . I know im not a Feng or Hawkprey but im not trying to be a concept artist just a character modeler who can do concept work if need be . Any help is appreciated . I did consider these finished concepts but im always willing to alter an image to make it more appealing .

I rather enjoy this funky alien, sorta reminds me of the xen aliens at the end of half life.
Yea this is cool, I'm working on a half life 2 mod too... sdk is said to come out in a "couple" of weeks, however this could next week or many, many, many weeks.

Did i post in here earlier? did it get pruned? if i said something wrong (admin) plz pm me why...
the gyst of it was... err... big head dudes remind me of hl1 telepaths, though lizard faces are a little cliche' (maybe a longer face structure?) otherwise good, clean work, steady progress!

If you are trying to fit in with the Half Life alien "style" a lot of their monsters seemed to have been inspired by crustaceous ocean life and insects. EG: head crabs, barnacles, the chitonous drones, that freaky shark thing, etc.
Your alien kind of reminds me of the big-headed boss from the very end of the game. That thing was cool, but I think yours would be better (and fit in with Half Life seamlessly) if you would take more inspiration from deep-sea creatures or insects.
Valve seems to have kept the same inspiration in the new Half Life game too. Eg: Take a look at the flying manatee "airplane", the ant-lions, etc..
As someone else noted, your alien looks like it's smiling, which sort of takes away from the scariness of it.
Of course, maybe your mod is trying to do aliens that don't look like part of the half life, so feel free to ignore me.
Just my 2 cents.

the top corners of his mouth go up, giving him that look as if he is smiling, and the human nose sorta puts off. What i wanna know is what does the walk animation look like? :D

Cool concept. I do agree with the 'smiley' mouth though. It makes him look a little happy. Maybe if you gave him this dense, clamped mouth of razor sharp teeth the grin would look real creepy and ominous. The open mouth I think is what makes him look a bit flappy happy :)
It's a good idea I think to get started making a mod for HL2 now. Mods take so damn long to do and they seldom get done. Anyone know how many polys this game can push? I used to work on PS2 so my poly breakdown is a bit low :) This guy has a lot of poly-eating details. I'd like to see a 3d model of him. Like I said, nice work.
