Prometheus>> Thanks, that's the actual in game lighting...no doctored or photoshop. We (I am a little tiny weenie guy in there) will be one of the Ten featured Games on the PC Gamer Mag this month. Thanks also for the info. (BTW: Your site rock! love it. I learn a lot from your totorial section. Your art is sick too! Keep it up Bro.)
davi>> The MAN himself! yep, they are part of the original crews (the coder) behind it. Also StarCraft!

Those screenshots look freakin' awesome...too bad it's an online multiplayer game, or I'd snatch it as soon as it came out...I have dial modem at home *sniff*
...Though I'd like to get DSL or cable modem once Matrix Online comes out...I've already formed a guild for the game called The Collective (http://thecollective.freeservers.com).:D

Hi xia :)
(more screenshots were added since I posted. It's all good).
Yeah, I've been following ArenaNet for quite awhile. In fact, the time that Pat Wyatt took to answer my questions over the phone helped to determine what I should be studying at school. That was way back in the fall of 2000, heh.
ArenaNet has a series of articles related to work in the games industry if anyone cares to read them. And, I have a sneaky suspicion that my questions (or lack of coherence) maybe gave some inspiration to the development of the articles. ;)
My relationship to ArenaNet originated from my voluntary efforts at TheHelper.net, a site well known for Unofficial Blizzard Tech Support.

Chile>> Thanks man! Yes! Pat is an awesome manager/founder. Great guy, love him. All the founders here are very very great and I am so fortunate to be a part of such an amazing team. They are very casual and helpful...lovely environment to work and all. Yeah! just keep working on what u doing and keep in touch with them (us).
I really appreciate ur interested in the game. cus I am very excited about the project too. Great people to work with, very happy to be part of it and it is actually my first real big project.
Thanks

This is that game that's being put together by some former battle.net guys who are billing one of its selling points as being that they don't charge monthly fees like other MMORPGs, right?
I hope it turns out great, and they make a buttload of money off it. Not merely to see their hard work paid off, but also to one-up all the other companies out there who dare charge monthly fees for, with a few possible exceptions, what's essentially something that should be provided free of charge.
Anyway, I've never really looked too much into this game, but am checking out the site now. Aboslutely beautiful screenshots, but as with most MMORPGs, I'm skeptical until I actually see it from the perspective of the player interface, since that's the view I'm going to be seeing it as if and when I buy the game.
Ah, here we go...
After learning the game and building up your first character, you may choose to test your skills in head-to-head competition or guild warfare. The game is designed to reward player skill and teamwork, not time spent playing, so you won't need to spend hundreds of hours leveling up your character to compete.
The game includes integrated support for guilds, with guild banners and halls, chat rooms and forums. Guilds can challenge other guilds to battle, compete for control of key parts of the world, and be ranked on a worldwide ladder.
I definately like this approach, especially the part I put in bold. But I'm just wondering how well it will hold up when put to actual practice.

*wearing his Guild Wars t-shirt* :P
Rather than level up certain skills, or spells in your profession, you are given different skills or spells to learn as you grow. One skill might be less effective in a given situation, and another skill would be more effective. However, it doesn't mean that someone with a limited set of skills can't contribute to the success of a party of players.
My guess is that a combination of skills might be more effective in monster/players kills than the use of only one skill.
Now, I haven't played the alpha, and I have no idea when the beta starts, or even whether I'll be in the beta (probably not since I'll more than likely have transferred my fan site to someone else by then), but that is how I understand how the characters work together.
Guild vs. Guild possibilities seem to have a strong appeal. There will be missions that involve competition against other groups of players. If you want to PvP, you can take the mission. But, the missions are crucial to the completion of the game (as this is a truly persistent and dynamic world), so non duelling and non pk folks can play without the worry of backstabbing if they so choose.
You must play the game online. There is no offline single player mode that will eb included with the game. But, you can solo play with certain missions to buff up your character before you venture into more hostile areas.
