Hey Guys,
I've just had a browse of the website for the first time. Some of the stuff I have seen is really good. However, is there anywhere where I can talk to people about conceptual art? I am based in Cambridge in the U.K. and visit London on a regular basis to see new shows and exhibitions that are in town. I'd like to know what the rest of the world thought of the Turner Prize, and its' winner (the cross-dressing potter Grayson Perry). I'd also like to know what you yanks think of Paul McCarthy. He's just opened a new exhibition in London called Piccadilly Circus, which I think is genius, however it would be interesting to find out what you guys think. If you are interested I'll write a brief resume of the exhibition and how it has been received in London.
Once I have got some response from you guys I'll tell you about other shows that I've seen and will tell you how my art is developing from seeing these shows.
What I find in art is that unfortunately there are two main camps. The first is the camp with the classical view that the art should be for the eyes predominantly, with skill and craftsmanship presented to the viewer in the form of a painted picture or a well carved sculpture etc.; the second camp, however, presents art for the brain, where the viewer's interpretation of what is presented to them is the art. This art is thought stimulating in a deeper sense to the classical art camp. As you have probably discovered by now I lean towards the thinking art (although I can get totally engrossed in a Titian or a Velasquez etc.). Well enough of me ranting, if someone is interested in what I've got to say about art, especially the contemporary art in London then just let me know. :chug:
