Happy New Year everyone!

This is a work in progress of a spider-mech design. Clearly inspired by all other walker mech designs this is more of a painting exercise than a design exercise.

I'm using P7, and intend to complete the entire image in grayscale before adding colour.

This level of completion shows my struggle to paint large areas using only a few colours (concentrating on overall light and shape) versus my tendency to attempt details early on in the process.

Thanks for checking it out, any crits appreciated.

Overall I like the shapes and proportions that you have established here. Not 100% sure about the perspective however. You are looking down and the critter in perspective tapers away from us. In reality this would be quite significant tapering. The ground plane that you've suggested also appears to be fighting the perspective of the object. Before doing anything else, I would have a clear idea on how your perspective is working and where the vanishing points would be (roughly). As you might find later on as you are working the painting, you run into visual problems. Just a thought.

Thanks guys,

Glad you like it so far, I'll solve the perspective issues before moving on.

Cheers!
