Hey folks,
Long time no post. I thought I'd toss a couple of RPG city illustrations on the table for you guys to shred. Both were done for WotC's recently published Eberron Campaign Guide. The first is a ruined Dragonborn fortress and the second is my interpretation of an abandoned mindflayer citadel.
Both were sketched on paper and painted in Photoshop.
Let me know what you think.

The second one might look at home in one of the planes of Hell, but it's too distorted to fit in a conventional fantasy setting. The first one is beautiful, but I'd love to see just a little bit more of the sky and mountains surrounding the city. It seems as though you cropped it too close.

Saved the first one to my inspiration folder ^_^ though i was hoping for more damage and dilapidation there is such beauty in the erosion of man made structures

Thanks for the kind words guys. :)
Second one... good rendering, but unfortunately reminds me of the Gates of Hell in Sandman: Season of Mists. It's visually cool, but the mention of hell by the other poster immediately put that association in my mind. You might want to take a look at that graphic novel...
I'll have to try and hunt down a copy of Gaiman's "Season of Mists" and see what you mean. I did a quick google but only got cover art and a couple small interiors. Unfortunately I somehow missed out on the Sandman series when I was a kid and didn't become a fan until Gaiman started writing novels. I've actually read everything except his Sandman series.
