DEC 10 2010 Update,

No more fuckin around ;)

Hey everyone. It's been awhile since I have posted on here. I really want to start taking my work to the next level. So I have decided a new sketchbook is in order. Contained in this thread will be a mix bag of concept art, digital sculpture, as well as final characters, both personal and professional

I know this forum is not primarily geared toward work that isn't 2D, however. I value everyone's feedback, design sense, anatomy knowledge, and overall artistic eye.

Lets all keep growing together.

-Cheers

So I am working on a new character for my portfolio. A couple actually, but here is a progress shot of the head. I will post up it's concept and the rest of it soon enough. Just felt I should post up something new. today. It still has a long way to go before its final, but its got a few good hours in there.

DStraX - Thank you! I agree, and it will be coming. Probably primarily studies. I am keeping this book for all things I do artwise 2D and 3D. I feel that no matter the medium the crits from the many talented artists on this site are invaluable.

NewGuy22 - Cheers! I am glad that you could see a few different examples. Keep on your own path to artwork and feel free to dabble whenever you can. It's fun. I will be keeping at it, and I hope you do to.

Nice models, I liked the gorilaz char, pretty amazing, directly in zb or used some basemesh for that? itīs seems hard to do cartoon models in zb. hope to see more, see you !

Here is an update of a project I worked on earlier this year.

I was part of the development team that made the beach demo for Google's O3D Browser based rendering engine. I am responsible for terrain modeling/texturing, layout, various foliage models/textures, tribal props. Here is the video we showed off in the engine.

Please enjoy

GDonaldson - Thank you! I think I want to redo his clothing and do the other band members.

Ledd - Cheers! The base mesh was actually a quickly put together humanoid blank I put together like a year ago. It was very low poly and easy to manipulate. The clothing was modeled separately from the body.

Here is an update of the character I am currently working on. It's coming along. He is going to be an armor clad titan hunter :) Normally I wouldn't do the complete naked underbody when I do something that is in armor or clothing, but I thought it would be a good exercise.

Does anyone think the hands look small on the titan hunter? In the front view they feel about right, but something about the 3/4 view makes them seem a little small. It might just be the perspective in zbrush. I am thinking of making them about 10% bigger. any thoughts????

AlexGonzales - Thank you for the support

Hey everyone!

It's been a few days...or more haha. I got laid off from my job, I know sad face right! I need to make some new portfolio work! Anyhoo. I decided to re-visit my gorillaz piece. I thought the first one was alright, but I could have taken it much further. I am changing out his clothing (since the head, hands, and shoes are already sculpted) and trying to take him to a better level of polish. I need to finish up the pants as well as the belt. But I think this wip is appropriate to show.

Lapada - Thanks man. I enjoy the head nod :P

Well,

yesterdays update wasn't very epic. But so far today I have finished the base mesh for the new 2D! haha I am ready and amped for some zbrush goodness.

These renderings are absolutely astounding! I can only hope to be half this talented. I'm looking forward to seeing more stuff, and hope ya DO manage to get some studies up, I bet they're just as engaging!

Here is an update of the Gorillaz piece. I have not actually textured anything. I painted some colors on in photoshop just to get an idea of how I want the piece to look. Now I must make the low poly props. Then it's texture time!

Dr.Blindsy - Thank you. Just keep at it. It's all I can say. I still have a long road to go myself. I will definitely be posting some studies and 2D work. I currently got laid of so working on my portfolio has been a bigger priority.

Well, I finished texturing this bad boy! haha. I am in the process of rigging him now, and finishing up the scene. This is a real time screen capture, using an awesome real time shader I found online.

These are great--love the bed with the bedsheets, and the gorillaz character. The only critique I can think of offering is that there could be a little more detail in the hair of the character? Not sure.

Either way, looks great man.

Very cool gorillaz characters man, it must take hours to do the modeling and texturing for those guys! Keep it up!

Sketch back if you'd like...

Yowza, great 3D models! Your model of 2d is exceptional, my only crit is that his hands seem too gnarled and realistic when compared to everything else, mainly his face (which is spot on), they don't seem to belong to the same person. Still awesome regardless.

Keep up the hard work, good luck with your folio!
