Hello everyone on the forums. First and foremost I would like to say if this post isn't in where it should be I'm sorry, I'll do my best to make sure I won't make that mistake again.
Well I have been fortunate to learn that Conceptart.org is a good community to get well thought out critiques instead of the never ending shouts of kawai! on DA.
Now, my primary goal is to break into the video game industry after finishing the Game Art course in college, specifically becoming an environmental artist/level designer. I understand this is not a particularity easy thing to do, nor have I had any allusions it would ever be easy to do, so I want to start from the bottom of ground up in designing environments, Photoshop or by hand that I can later practice into making them into full levels using one of my programs.
I'm trying to learning the tools of Z brush and Maya for character and object modeling, also texture design to use in said video game worlds.
I would be grateful to anyone who could link me to some artists, tutorials, programs, starting points, or give general advice to help me on my journey.
I will take any advice or constructive criticism given.
I will take my time and put real work to grow from doodles, and bad sketches to real fully completed pieces of art.
I know I won't have what I'm looking to do "mastered" in the time frame before I go to college.
But I am hoping that I will have a good grasp on environmental design and associated, so that when I do go to college Ill better understand and more prepared. As well as being able to learn from criticism and apply subtle touches.
I've always disliked my art, and I figured now's the time to do something about it. Theres no hope for me doing anything I wan't to in the video game industry without learning these some degree:
Anatomy
Color
Texture
Lighting
Composition
Line work
Gesture
Perspective
Character design
Environment design
Movement
Shading
Depth
So thanks for reading my post, and more so, thank you for your time, patience and acceptance.
