black lotus, you pick a light source and shade accordingly, they look good, bolder outlines(around the outside) might help to finish a piece. your anatomy is close still some work needed in that department, keep with the dynamic poses, good attention to detail 8} like that first post. ~cheers

Your attention to detail is fantastic. Your lines are very confident and smooth. You seem to shy away from drawing ears. Covering an anatomy defeciency perhaps?

hey guys
@randis, thx, i´ll do some studies soon ^^
too lazy at the moment ^^
so here´s a new pic.
i call it fallen paladin ^^

so here it is

Your Paladin looks great. Has some relly good volume to it. Maybe a few really dark blacks in certian areas to make it pop even more.
As for the backgrounds you were talking about. I find it best to draw the background along with the main figure. For me it helps ground them in the space, and makes them feel like part of the enviornment.

@boehmke
yeah i thought about that too but when i start drawing i completly concentrate on the person and totally forget the background. have to work on that
and of course on anatomy :D
i hope i can post some studies and rough sketches next time, so you can help me a little more ^^

God, you are really amazing for your age man. You're barely a year older than me and you kick my ass. I really love how the lines flow in this one, something I'm desperately aiming to succeed at. The only issue maybe some slight anatomy inaccuracies, but thats easy to fix! BTW, do you use references for any of these, for the armor and what not. If not, what did you study to get so good at drawing your characters. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Edit- are you using an hb mechanical for the original layout on these?

hey guys
thank you very much
@dakoscwash
yeah, like i said, lots of mistakes in anatomy. gotta learn more :D
anyways, for the armor parts... hm i dunno they´re mostly in my mind. a few years ago i played japanese role playing games everyday so i think i just got those things in my brain. for this pic, the great artwork of marko djurdjevic inspired me. he helped me a lot in designing. i try to regard some things while designing like asymetrie and stuff.
@josef
yeah buddy, you helped me a lot. i love you the way an illustrator can love another illustrator without being... i dunno, weird :D
thx dude anyway :chug:

Lotus, for starters, dont be so down on yourself! Its easy to become disheartened, but dont lose sight in all of your frustration of of why you're drawing to begin with! So chill, becasuse your stuff is really good and you can only get better.
Anyway, after the pep talk...a few suggestions. I find that tracing paper REALLY helps. You can keep what you think is working and trash whats not, so buy a big roll of it and go to town. Also, my teachers always tell me take my drawing to the absolute extreme, then they can always be taken back down. So maybe with your character posing and other more nitpicky elements, just do something crazy then tone it down until its believable. Youll end up doing soemthing you normally wouldnt if you just dont think about what youre doing! As far as anatomy goes...get some books and PRACTICE.
Sorry for the schpiel. Hope it helps! :rolleyes:

Try getting shots of wrestling matches or sports events or boxing matches or karate tournaments or stuff like that. Take the poses from that and try mixing it up. Maybe an orc boxing/wrestling/basketball match?
Wait, 16, you say?
That's damn good. I wonder if I'll be that good at your age. You're my new goal. When I'm 16, I wanna be as good as you. SO THERE! Watch out, man! :P
Seriously though, inspiring stuff. Now all I wanna see is a finished painting! *Starts chant*
Painting, painting, painting, painting, painting PAINTING!

June 5th, 2004, 11:09 AM
i dont know what to critisize on the design but imo i think you could make the main guy a more focal point by darkening his tones so that he's more outstanding :)
i like your attention to detail and your pencils work very much, more pls!

Well, I can give it a shot, but...eh...I dunno. It looks great because it looks hurried. It's stylish.
Of course, with the hurried look you get obvious stuff like minor anatomy problems and left out details. For instance, the main chars hands look under developed. The background lacks definition, but thats good...it puts the focus on the fore character.
The helmet piece is a little out of whack, too. One side is larger than the other. Of course, it could just be beat up...if so, its all good.
It's all good, anyway. Hope I made some sense and helped you a bit. Keep rockin and HAVE FUN.

June 8th, 2004, 12:44 PM
awesome marc! but i think there is a bit too much detail in it.
i`m not sure but if the focus is on the the guy in the foreground there are two things you could do better:
1 less detail in the foreground
or
2 less detail in the backround
i think you know this of course but i think you had to do it some "better" in the picture. whats up with erlangen?

Hey Dark Lotus,
You've got some amazing work here, I really like your style, and concepts.

Darrku Corokossu,
you are WAY too good for you age. I recommend that you go and stare at some Koi carps swimming in a pond for five years now ;-)
That last pic is really good, could be a little better by adding some contrast between foreground character and the background characters.
You are completely consuming Marko's book eh?
