CS4 Help - Colors Darker than Color Picked

So I've asked on two different forums, teachers at my school, and no one can help me with this problem.

Photoshop has always been working fine, until I opened it up three hours ago. It colors darker than the real color. D:
Now don't say "silly n00b, your brush opacity must be off, or your on one of the darker settings" because as you can see by my link that they are not(and Im no noob; I've been working with photoshop for 6 years). Everything is on normal at 100% opacity and flow. I've never had this problem before, but then again I hold a record for breaking programs(lol Maya..lol).

And why would it just suddenly do that by itself? I don't dare touch the color mode settings. x_x; All I did was open it, like I have been, and just started coloring.

I had a similar problem a few years back.

Is your image in RGB or CMYK mode? If you're in CMYK mode PS will adjust any colours you try to pick that are out of the printing gamut for CMYK. The adjusted colours are often darker and less saturated due to the fact that not all RGB colours can be printed.

I've had a similar problem. But it happens with pictures that have a darker color pallet. I opened two different files to check it, one plain white, and one that had a lot of heavy shadows. I chose my color on the white file and then switched over to the darker one and I could see the color get darker. I'm not sure why it does this, but it never bothered me too much.

Perhaps you could try checking this to learn a bit more about it.

Reinstall photoshop--this way it will reset your adobe color profile if something is wrong with it. I had the same problem with no luck for an answer, but a reinstall fixed it.

Double check that one of the layers above the one you are working on isn't causing an issue. As an example, maybe there is an adjustment layer somewhere in there?

Most of the weirdness I've encountered in Photoshop has been something obvious that I hadn't noticed.

Sounds like its either a color profile issue as others have suggested or I am guessing you have web safe colors turned on. Under the Color Pallet menu there is a option "Make Ramp Web Safe", if its on, try turning it off.

Sorry for replying late(whoo hoo full sail schedule). Reinstalling Photoshop worked. That's just really weird though. Im not too sure why it would switch the colors so suddenly. :/ I think maybe when I upgraded my CS3 it might have done something. Idk, but that did help.

Thanks for the other help guys. If it happens again, I'll go back here to try the other trouble shoots. :]
