Good work , I especially like the hand gripping the gun pointed towards the viewer and the aliens tail/tentacel.
only crit is that I think her hips are a bit small, compared to the shoulders.

hey there!
First i want to say: great lighting, looks good to me, although there is something that kind of bugs me.
the right arm is pointing backwards i suppose, because it is getting smaller to the end, am i right? But i think there is something wrong about the right arms shadow... when i saw this pic i thought it had some anatomy issues on the right arm. but now i think it is something about the lighting, and the hand is probably a tad too small.
And the head is too big in my oppinion... make it smaller, just a bit! ;)
I figured that the person is supposed to be female, is that right? Because the body is female, but the face is not... Kind of reminds me on Feng zhu... dunno why! :D
Enough of this jibberish... wish i could paint like that!
cheers! :chug:

hmm... crits eh.... let me have a look. This is frickin' amazing so any comments are only small ones. Love the effect that you have on the tail and the colours are excellently executed! I agree with el_kyrre - head too big, hand too small. Something also bothers me about that black line running from the characters left eye down to the mouth - it feels like it digs into the face too much.

Ha! she looks screwed! you could at least hav given her a pulse rifle, you know, let her go down with honor like our beloved hudson..
Real good mood here, I love the tail... The blue/red really hits the A2 spot.

Overall the image looks fantastic.
I agree with the comments about head proportion, as it looks slightly to large and in turn makes HER RIGHT arm appear to short.
The other major problem i have is with the Aliens tail. At the moment the tails appears to be darting directly across the screen to the left (and therefore missing her), I think that if you were to curve the end down slightly, it would suggest more of a chopping motion downwards and MORE DANGER.
Still, the rendering, atmosphere and colours on this image are fantastic.

Hey that dude looks worried … HEY HOLD ON that’s a girl …??? Hhhhmmm well its kinder dark and I’m kinder drunk … nice use of the chiaroscuro very photographic if you did use photographic reference for the stage did u also use it for the character ??? she need’s more a little more work on the proportion department but the illustration is cool dude :) :chug:

hi people, thanks for all the comments. Let me reply to all at once. First of, I've made the changes some of you mentionned because I thought you were right on target. I hope you like this version better.
. arm longer and reworked (more muscles)
. head reworked, looks smaller
. tail reworked, angled, moved
. pants, hips reworked
The idea, btw, wasn't to have the Alien attacking her, but to have the Alien make a noise (hence the title), and when she turns to look, the Alien has already swiftly passed behind her (they're fast). But if you saw something different, that's fine too, of course.
As for the gender "issue", I don't have any problems with the model not being particularly obvious. I think she's more kick-ass that way. Furthermore, if you recall the movie, Vasquez's case is similar...
Hudson (Bill Paxton) looks over at the female marine named Vasquez (Jenette Goldstein), as she does pull-ups, and asks, 'Hey Vasquez, have you ever been mistaken for a man?' She coolly looks back at him and responds, 'No, have you?'
There's sexual ambiguity all over this movie, not to mention H.R. Giger's sexually explicit work on the Aliens and the Eggs (look at the original drawings and you'll see what I mean - besides, most of Giger's work is sexually oriented anyway). As an interesting sidenote, other than the fact that the Aliens' heads are obviously penis-shaped, the eggs originally opened in 2 parts but that looked too much like a vagina, so they made it opened in 4, like a banana (which is also very funny, sexually speaking).
The astute observer amongst you may have noticed that it is Vasquez's bandana that the model is wearing.
:rambo: :alien5:
Thanks again,
C.
PS: I might still need to rework that hand a bit, I still can't figure out if I find it too small or not...

jon...this is way cool!
I think it's much better than mine, or at least, different in a great way. Thanks, man, I appreciate. I think I'm gonna learn a lot from that and by association, I'll steal some ideas and rework it.
That's funny, my original also had the long windows and I intended to play with steam but didn't. You did it and it looks great. Should've trust my original instincts...
So let's see: added canvas, decentered the model to create more breathing room, which is also good because it recenter the attention to the model rather than the red light (light which is not necessary after seeing your version.)
That'll teach me to not get stuck with my canvas size. I tend to create one and stay within the established parameters, but by adding some, it makes it so much better.
Also, magnified the tail by 3 or more, added steam/green filter and played with dodge to create atmosphere. Shadow on the left biceps to break monotony (nice move).
(I need your brain)
With appreciation,
your artist-wannabe buddy,
