FIRST POST, first excuse. Im from Germany and my english knowledge isn't the best.

Hum, I really asked myself if I should post this picture, because the standards in this board are "a little bit" above my abilities... :(

But...I'll give it a try. Don't rip me apart please... :D

Well, I think it's quite good. You definately have graphic sensibilities. Something you might want to think about is simplifying. I know you were trying to create a kind of grityness to the texture of the skin. But, I think you could have communicated this with less lines and detail. I think you have a good design sense. You just might want to practice giving your drawings a focal point. Right now my eye doesn't really foccus on any one aspect of your image for very long. The nose and nose ring kind of blend into the image, because there's almost too much detail. Just a thought. The drawing is good, but you could go a lot further with it.

Good job!

hum, youre right, but i always wanted to try some more details in a drawing than I usually do. Normally I draw real simple comic stuff like this:

Hum, I guess I'll post new pictures when I raised my skills a little bit. But with 22 years, a fulltime job that has absolutely nothing to do with arts in any way, it's very hard to gain experiences...
That makes me feel depressed very often, you know.

I understand completely. The problem is that there's not much crit to give but that. You can draw well that's clear, in terms of design and technique (wich is saying quite a bit). The only thing I can say to work on are the things everyone needs to work on. Perspective, composition, value, bla, bla, bla. You already know this though. You're ready for hardcore art training. I was 23 when I gave up becoming a teacher and decided to go to art school. You just aren't going to get any better at art unless you can spend about 2 hours a day drawing. My advice would be to get over any fear you have of crits, bad or good, and post more. When I post work, the comments, good or bad only make me want to post more. Getting a reaction to my work helps me do more. Right now I'm taking a break from school, but even though I'm working like 40 hours a week, I still can get about 4 hours of drawing in on about 4-5 days a week. So, keep doing what you're doing, your work is coming along fine. But, you might want to ask yourself if you're ready to give art a bigger commitment.

I really need to improve my skills, but in Germany it isn't that easy to find an art school that's worth studying. And before I think about that I gotta (shit, now i reach the end of my english vocabulary) comply with the conditions that I need to visit that art schools.
That would mean 3 years of learning and jobbing before I could get to the art thing.
But I think that is the only way, so I'll work something out these months. Perhaps I'm just interested in too many things...

Excuse my english and thanks for your comments, they really helped me out someway... ;)

Well, any good art school is going to have requirements, even if it's here in the U. S. The school I go to, Art Center College of Design, takes many international students. There are actually a couple of people that I've met at my school that said they came from Germany, though most international students come from China or Korea. But, like you say, it will take some doing. Money is always the issue though, and art school isn't cheap. My school costs 36,000 US per year. It's definately not cheap, but scholarships are available for international students. It would definately be harder for you there then the national students. You'd have to keep a higher grade point average. But, it's definately achievable. I would call up the schools you are interested in and start a dialogue. Tour the facilities and talk to students. Teachers to, if possible. Just remember that there is always a way, if you are willing to pay the price. Persistance will always win in the end.

Anyways, I think you can do it! Good luck!

Hum, studying overseas isn't possible...the next 5 years...
And the money is a REALLY big problem. But I think in the end I have to be content with what I'm able to learn here in Germany. In worst case all by myself. But as I said, I'll try to work out the best... ;)

Thanks for your words...

You don't necessarily have to hit an art school. Read tutorials, subscribe to a decent art magazine, look at books, and most importantly - keep practicing.

Good stuff. :chug:

Join conceptart and post here. There are loads of tutorials, reference pictures etc. And a whole world of artists willing to help you improve. I'm a self-taught artist, couldn't afford school. I've learnt just by studying how other artists do it, studying detail in life and going through volumes of artbooks. Just browsing throught the crits on this forum has given me a wealth of information. If you really want to learn art, find the time to practice even if it's only a few minutes a day and start posting. Check out the middle class on this forum. It's all about dedicated artists helping each other learn. Good luck.

I'll do my very best. At this time I have to opportunity to earn some money with drawing Illustrations for a daily newspaper. I guess I'll find my way somehow...thanks for the comments... ;)

But first I gotta get a Wacom. Coloring with the mouse really really REALLY sucks.

@Nate : Hey wazzup Nate. Of course I remember you, are active in some german boards?

(Warst du nicht auch mal bei artx?)
