I am trying to paint a waterfall inside photoshop, but I can't seem to find a tool that will allow me to apply a gradient opacity layer setting to the waterfall, which I intend to use in order to make the waterfall gradually change from 100% opacity at the top to 0% opacity at the bottom. Is there such a tool? Thanks for your help.

You can use a layer mask.

can you elaborate on the layer mask? Also, let me further clarify what exactly I am trying to do with a makeshift diagram:

Waterfall Opacity
lllllllllllllllllll 100%
ll ll ll ll ll l 95%
ll ll ll ll l 90%
ll ll ll 85%
(etc etc.) 80% - 10%
......... 5%
(bottom of 0%
water fall)

Is there a way of doing that "opacity gradient" besides painting that waterfall tediously manually?

You can buy Whits layer mask dvd for $5. It'll achieve what you are trying for.
