I've been wanting to try photoshop coloring for a while now, since I don't seem to be improving at all in Painter. I recently learned that CS4 has a live rotation feature, similar to the one in Corel Painter.

Can this function be bound to a key, like it already is in Painter? (alt-space, drag)

Or do I have to click the icon every time I want to rotate? I'm spoiled by Painter's quick rotation feature, so I'm wondering if it's that much more of a hassle.

On my Mac the hotkey is R. But you will need the right video card that supports open GL.

-Press and release key = you switch to the tool permanently till you change it for another one
-press and maintain = you switch to the tool (here the rotate feature) temporary and once you will release the key, Photoshop will switch back to your previous tool (brush or anything else)
simple and effective...
