I love sound effects.
In space, only the audience can hear you make stupid noises.

why is the astronaut so huge? and why is he shooting a planet?

I do hope that was sarcasm.

I've been up for around 28 hours...this just keeps going...

THe components may not be arranged in a way that would actually work, but I don't have any of my laser assembly manuals on hand to reference.

Nice design man. While looking at the astronaut shooting the gun. I was wondering what would happen if you shot a gun in space. Since theres no gravity would you fly back as fast as the bullet was going forward, or what?

its not that theres no gravity in space, but no friction.
but i guess yeah, if you shot a gun in space you would just fly backwards

hmm... looks like you've had lots of time to think about this one. The design is cool and it would be funny to see to astronauts having a gun drawing competition like it was the old west - shoot out at the OK Space Coral. :D :p
As for the recoil, yes there would be some but you need to account for the mass differents ie a bullet has a very small mass when compared with a man. Kinda like why gravity is 1/6 on the moon. The moon is 1/6 the size of earth.

Technically you would not be able to fire a normal gun, since it uses the fact that gun powder is flamable. And flames need oxygen right? I really like the green space thing :) Really great retro idea, I love it. Brrrr zoom zoom! :)

Uh.....you'll notice it's a particle beam weapon, which by theoretical standards would have no recoil, making them ideal for space use. On earth we have a few big particle accelerators that magentically accelerate aub-atomic particles to near light speed. At 99% of the speed of light, even a particle the size of an electron will hit you with the same force as a semi going 80mph on the highway. This is the hand-held version.
Even mounting traditional projecticle weapons on spacecraft would be hazardous, as they would have the same effect as the craft's ratio control thrusters (such as on the shuttle) and would produce many unforseen effects on the craft's motion. Firing a few rounds with even a .50 caliber weapon might send your ship spinning out of orbit.
Some people ask what the benefit of having an energy weapon (railgun, laser weapon, particle beam weapon) is, well, this is it.

Why is (almost) everyone on this forum so sarcastic?
Any way all that aside Id like to see a little more put into the detail... its a great design and I respect your efforts towards something cool. Im not going to nit pick it to death and crack a joke about your drawing just an honest crit..Keep it up and work on the details other than that Good Job:chug:

i wasn't being sarcastic...what is he shooting if it's not a planet? the gun design is cool though. oh wait...i see now...the planet is in the background and he's shooting towards the foreground...my mistake. i would use overlapping or at least make the planet smaller...or place it somewhere else to show depth. once again...not being sarcastic...just didn't understand what was going on in the pic.

What if you used a mini air tank and sprayed a little oxygen into the barrel and then shot the gun? Also, since explosions can't happen in space, how did the death star blow up?!

There was oxygen inside the Death Star.

Clocktower: I think the main wierd thing is the sun in the background, making it look like the beam came in contact with the planet.
toaster: pshaw and touche.
