View Full Version : SUPER Stylised Challenge - July 2009 - IMPORTANT NOTICE

Hello Stylised Challengers,
Thank you all for your fantastic support over the last 31 Stylised Challenges - we could never have expected them to be as popular and high quality as you all managed to make them each and every month with your stunning submissions, and it is with great sadness today that I have to say that there will not be a Stylised Challenge for July, as we are having to cut back on this feature from our 2DArtist magazine for the foreseeable future.
I hope this will not upset too many of you; you have all been a pleasure to watch grow throughout these challenges, and it has been lovely to get to know you all. I will of course still be around Concept Art.org browsing the forums, so please feel free to contact me by PM or by email at lynette@3dtotal.com at any time.:)
Just to explain a little about our reasons for ending the challenges: we've had a really great run of 31 back-to-back challenges that have all gone down extremely well, and we have been outstanded by the enthusiasm and participation over the last 2-and-a-half years. However, after we recently reviewed our magazines, we've decided as a team that we should try a period of no community challenges in the magazine to see how things go, and to see how this enables us to dedicate more time to bringing you more - and better - tutorial content within the monthly pages. So we hope our decision is understandable, and we hope that you will continue to enjoy 2DArtist magazine with our new ideas.
Thank you once again for all your support, I look forward to seeing you all around CA, and of course you've not seen the last of me anyway as we still have a Female Warrior to vote for after some really great submissions again this month, so keep an eye on the challenge till the end!
Thank you everyone, I'll miss working with you all on these challenges - best of luck to all of you with your individual artistic endeavours!
Very best wishes,
Lynette - 3DTotal

Indeed, it was good to be part of some of these last challenges. I remember joining these awhile back. These are always a great motivator to come up with neat pieces and it was a blast being a part of them and along with everyone else. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this:)

oh man, I am glad to be part of the this community challenge ,:) the challenges have given me lots of opportunities to test different drawing styles and challenge myself.
And of course all the great, varied artists from different background!! I learn a lot from the drawings!
I have always been looking forward every month for new challenges..... well this time I will challenge myself instead :)

Well, everything good has to come to an end. Itīs truly a pity, but Iīve enjoyed a lot participating in these challenges.
Have you thought about giving a little more time for them, maybe two or three months, so it can take even better works?
Other Idea I never voiced, but wish I had, was a background challenge.
Never the less, congratulations to everyone on these challenges.

Miss Lynette I would personally like to thank you for running the great contest as long as you did. I only participated in the last 2, but I followed previous months and always enjoyed seeing what all of the awesome artists would come up with.
Should the contest ever start again, or any variation of it, count on me to be there :)

Hi Ray, it really has been a pleasure, and it's nice to know that everyone had fun and enjoyed participating! We'll be back for sure if we discover we can invest more time in future into challenges. CA.org has been a good home to us so we will certainly come back here should we be able to make a come back with new challenge ideas.:) Thanks for all your support till now, it's been really overwhelming, thank you!!

This is pretty sad news but I've enjoyed all the challenges that you've put on since I've been participating. Shame it has to end but it's been great fun and I think it's helped me to develop as an artist and also meet some cool people in the process! Seems everyone else who's taken part feels the same.
Thanks for running these contests and If you run anymore in the future I'll be sure to take part :)

I'd like to thank everyone at the 2d Artist magazine and 3D Total for giving all of us a means to gain some insight and exposure in the digital art world. This was a great way for me personally to learn new skills and see all the different possibilities there are when the imagination is put to use. These contests really helped to spark peoples' imaginations and creativity, and am very greatful for that!

Oh no, no, no!!
You can't do this to us. I can't believe the roll-over attitude of everyone.
I'm slap bang in the middle of putting together a 12 section book of my monthly challenges January to DECEMBER.
You have to keep this going at least till then.
I DEMAND THAT YOU DO THIS!!!!!!!!!
miss.lynette
July 2nd, 2009, 05:32 AM
You can still keep going with your own monthly concept Macaruba, or pehaps you can run a challenge of your own in this community activity forum to carry on from where we're leaving off? Sorry Macaruba :(

I will definitely keep my monthly subject going. Thanks for the inspiration and your dedicated work on this.
Are you moving on to any other interesting sections on Conceptart?
Are there any other challenge threads that you would recomend trying next?
Please keep an eye on my website and check out my stuff, please keep in touch by email also.
PS. I've just had a 20 x 30" print of my Centaurian Workhorse framed and accepted into the summer exhibition of Suffolk artists in Bury St Edmunds, I'm chuffed.
Cheers

Not for the time being Macaruba, we're having the dedicate our resources to other projects at the moment with things being so tight, but if in the future we can run challenges again I think we'll come back to this section of the site, unless we can set up something extra super cool with CA.org that is to get a better slot! Time will tell :)
I check out the concept art challenges, the COW and CHOW ones, and they have some stunning entries and lots of popularity! Perhaps they might be worth playing around with to see how you get on? I saw some really cool Chimera recently that they did and it was really inspiring :)
if you or anyone else does set up another stylized challenge I'll definitely take part...
It would be lovely to see you all carry on your own subjects monthly, perhaps taking it in turns to come up with topics? you could even post your little 'making ofs' in this forum, too, to further help everyone. just a thought! this is a community forum so ... it's yours to use! :)

hehe, thanks so much, i wish you'd found the challenges sooner, too! :) stick around CA.org though as there's always lots going on.
we do run a few challenges (not run by myself, but our forum mods run them and we provide prizes for them) on our Threedy forums: http://forums.3dtotal.com. we have a small 2D section where we have speed painting and matte painting challenges, so you might find something fun there, too? everyone is welcome on Threedy, it would be lovely to build up our 2d audience :)

I just wanted to say thank you for this great challenge. It was always a lot of fun to work on the topics for the stylized challenge and it gave me always the motivation to finish a picture with a certain quality and to push my style and skills a bit more.
So at the end I have some nice pictures which wouldn't exist if there wasn't this challenge.
Too bad it's over.
I hope there will be some new challenges in the future and I wish you luck with your magazine. Thanks!

Well this is indeed a great shame. I for one am certainly going to miss coming here and seeing the variety of great work that these challenges inspired in the 2d artists who frequent CA.
Very sad indeed.
I can only extend my thanks also to Miss Lynette and all at 2d Artist Magazine for running these monthly events. They have been great fun and a real impetus to drag my drawing style out of the very safe confines in which I had placed them. By the very virtue of friendly competition it aided me in working that much harder at improving my stlye. So for that I must say a Big Thank you Miss Lynette and all the fellow challengers.
Cheers
(As a side note is there a place where we may all be able to see past winners and entries since the start of the monthly challenges? I'd love to check out past work.)
Finally - good luck to you Lynette and 2d Artist Magazine.
Adieu

I don't currently do any digital painting, although I do try - nothing yet I'm brave enough to show though.;) I did a fine art degree so I am trained in art, just still a real newbie when it comes to actually digitally painting myself. learning alot from my job and all you guys though, so thank you right back at you all! :)

I'm really sorry to hear this - I thought this was one of the things that made 2D artist different from all the other art mags. The fact that you guys allowed regular artists out in the trenches have a chance at being in your pages, and win some nice prizes, as well as get a bit of exposure (even for people just learning like me!) was really outstanding.
I have learned a great deal during my time spent as a competitor. Of course we can do our own challenges, but it just won't be the same without the added motivation, moderation, and structure of the challenges you did.
Again, thank you for allowing each of us this great honor of being a part of past issues in your magazine. Reading about the great artists who are out in the industry is fascinating, but I so much enjoyed seeing the regular artists who I identified more with. It makes us regular peeps feel like we got some commonality when we can observe what others just like us are doing. I also thought it was a great way to showcase new talent. 10 years down the road, who knows which amazing artist will have gotten their images or how-to's published in 2D.
Again, man, I'm bummed.
