Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble..

I've decided that for my next project I am going to portray the Witches of McBeth. Not as old hags, like they typically are shown.. but as young women. I am still fleshing out the idea. These are just the initial sketches I but thought I could use some input on the direction.

I got a little lazy with this perhaps.I'll spend more time on them later.

But first, I came up with this cauldron tonight:

Perhaps the shading on the cauldron will make more sense when it is colored.. although I cannot promise anything. Hopefully you can make out the figures at this size. I wanted some sort of Cernonous figure holding the cauldron like Atlas holds the world. Well, I guess he isn't alone in this task.. I duplicated him a few times to add support for the cauldron.

I have also thought I may make one of the women old, one middle aged and one a young woman. Like the fates. But maybe that is mixing my mythology too much..

Looks like some good ideas, keep going. You should start hashing out the whole environment that they're in.

Well, it took me a while to get back to this.. I decided that my website needed an upgrade. Now that the site is sort-of finished, I've started to draw my witches again.

I wanted them to be young, like I may have said above. Not old hags.. I also wanted them to be doing a somewhat disturbing act (the witch in the middle is slicing her palm and letting the blood drip into the cauldron) and at the same time look kind of peaceful.

Thanks for the reply Grooveholmes.. I know I've still got a bit of hashing out the idea to do but I am happy with this start. I think you are right though. The environment is next.. and that will probably be (almost has to be) a grove of trees I think. I don't want to make the background too prominent though I dont think. I'll probably just put a few trees around them.. wild and crazy trees though I'm thinking.

(I think the hip on the woman to the right is too high.. gotta fix that. I wanted her hips to be turning away from the middle but...)
