I was just wondering, for those of you who have seen it, is the David Levy dvd worth the investment? Thanks a bunch! :)

It really depends on your level of understanding and practice with speedpainting and the brush engine. If I were you though in these economic times, I would take a look at the sample video they provide on the main website and if you aren't excited about it, then don't. There are many free tutorials out there (if you look) that talk about speed painting and brush generation. Again it really depends on what level you're at. Then again, If you are a beginner with painting period, then yes get it.

There are tutes in ImagineFX.com>Workshop section that will cover most of what Levy describes in the DVD. Which is custom brushes.

But in the end, it still basically depends on what's in your brain already to render out what you see, with the techniques that you've learned along the way, from doing all
the real world practicing. :) Levy will mention how he renders rocks, but
you'll still learn how to do it, when you yourself render real lifes.

There's no substitute for real life studies. Levy and crew can manipulate light and colour
because they've done/and keep doing their real worlds also. They can't teach that. :)

I love the bird (http://conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1696609&postcount=7) in your sb
post 21 (http://conceptart.org/forums/showpost.php?p=2335370&postcount=21) also, sweet values.

I still have to see the rest of Syd Mead's Workshops DVDs. But so far, his first disc has been solid.
He's been around for, aaaaaggggeeeesssssssss. [He did Blade Runner]. ;)
The amount of information he gives out is comparable to how much Andrew Jones, Scott Robertson
and Alex Alvarez share out. I'm still waiting for a Craig Mullin DVD/Book. :)
