DSG 311: Character: Waste Treatment Technician

This character could be anything from someone who empties containers, to controls vats, etc etc. Think dirty, stinky industrial job. Use your imagination, think of what kind of story you could tell through the image. What is he doing? Has being around waste made him/her crazy? That kind of stuff. Enjoy!!

not much has changed in the future... the WMTechnicians are over run with slacker candidates that use mech bots to remove the waste of humanity... all in the guise of a videogame.

In case you can't tell, that's supposed to be a lighter in his thumb.

I was thinking of a guy in a suit trying to repair some sort of valve or connection and the contents spewing all over him. Very messy, very colorful and very gross.

Hey Everyone!

Happy New Year! I am back! and guess what!!! I am almost caught up (I missed a whole bunch over the last few months) I have over 30 new sketches almost ready to post.. I did all the ones I have missed, and will be doing the new ones posted everyday.

Here is my sewage tech... gas mask (including air tanks) for the fumes, and bundled up head to to toe keep the crap out. The pitch fork type thingy is for uncloging pipes, drains, grates, etc. May come back and colour this one someday, once I get all the catchup ones complete.

Good work everyone,

Mike

I started fooling around in Illustrator and it started to look like a gorilla bot so I made it into a unique zoo custodian. He goes around the zoo picking up litter and trash and vaporizes it in his catcher and then the waste is fed into his hollow core.

Did you go to Sheridan? Are you originally from TO? I grew up in Barrie (just north of TO) and I took animation at Algonquin in Ottawa.... now working in games down here in the US.

There is quite a Canadian presence here at conceptart.org which rocks!

I figured that this here bein' a Daily Sketch Group an' all, I'd go back to sketching for a while.

H graphite pencil. Color in photoshop.

http://img9.photobucket.com/albums/v25/Oregano/Concept1/311-wastetechnician-copy.jpg

Some fun stuff going on here today people!

These are the ones that jumped out at me (not a value judgment, they just caught my eye, for what it's worth).

Dan Milligan: Really good character.

Wednesday: Rocks, man. Value study it may be, but it's still cool.

Gumdrop: I love the fact that the Harkonen doesn't have a rebreather or gas mask!

Rho: Dig the color on the rat - and the pose. Very, um... "raty" :D

Al Ian: I love the simplicity of this piece.

Valcon Jet: I wouldn't worry about "cartoony". Good work.

To the new folks: Welcome aboard!

Thats cool, I considered OCAD, but decided animation was a better fit.... I branched out into games after doing a few years of traditional animation- I actually did some work for Cuppa Coffee Animation and Canuck Creations there in TO... I think they are somewhere close to where you are...its been a few years.

Nice to meet you too... you have quite a rep here, great job. I really like your style, very quick and full of life. I checked out your website, and thanks for checking out mine, and thanks for the compliment. :)

Almost forgot, congrats on the Thunderdone win.

anyways, thanks for the reply, hope to see more of your stuff on here. have a good one... eh, :)

they're *dragon* waste technicians using the garbage truck. You can see a blue one right there by the red dumpster. And another one using the crane.

Hey! This is my first post here! Although i have been lurking here for around a year. I'm a business major but i've always liked drawing, no real help ever, and i'm just now learning how to use my wacom tablet.

Well anyway, heres my first entry... Took me about an hour in photoshop.

http://www.auburn.edu/~coleand/images/dsg311.jpg

It didnt really come out how i had hoped, it ended up with him looking as though hes shoveling dirt... Given the topic, that wasnt my intention :(

Every entry here is really creative! Keep up the good work!!!

I was thinking about the topic today and somehow the dude started holding a sword, and then it jumped to all those cheesy fantasy warrior vhs covers with the lady in the skimpy leopard bikini at the warrior's feet. So...yeah...

Cool stuff today! I really didn't think the topic would generate so many entries, so that surprised me. :D

I didn't realize everything had to be literal. I thought it was about concept. I'll try to do the 'same old thing' next time. I didn't get to take it all the way through as I said, but I didn't labor over it to turn it into a long drawn out piece either. te guidelines were pretty well written out, but at the same time, you've got to allow for someone running off a bit too, no?
