Wow that was pretty amazing.

Here's a two of my favorite inspiring animations:

Hey great stuff guys! Must say that Rock Band Beatles intro blew me away when I first saw it; I was already a fan of Pete Candeland and Passion Pictures but yea that put them even further ahead in my mind hehe.

Saw this thread and just wanted to throw in a few more things that really enjoyed (hopefully you guys will as well). This first one is a collection of shorts from Gobelins, the same school that produced Blind Spot (linked above).

http://cookedart.blogspot.com/2009/06/new-gobelins-films.html

Also on Cooked Art (great art blog btw) is this short from a Calarts Student... this one really made my jaw drop, especially since he's only a sophomore I think.

http://cookedart.blogspot.com/2009/05/this-one-time.html

Here are a couple of things from Youtube, the first being a pretty dark piece called Revolver by Jonas Odell, and the second is an excerpt from The Thief and The Cobbler by Richard Williams (if you can get your hands on a copy of the Recobbled version off of torrents I would highly recommend it!).

aaand I'll leave it at that :) hope you guys like em!

I second the The Thief and The Cobbler by Richard Williams. It's around the net somewhere, trying to gain momentum so as to push Disney into putting money
for a proper release instead of the botched up one they crapped out to audiences of Williams.

Mmmm, Thief and the Cobbler. I had the fortune of meeting Mr. Williams last year, it was incredibly inspiring!
Thanks everyone contributing to this thread! I've loved looking at all the films and clips! There's suck a fantastic variety! I loved that film, "When the Day Breaks" that you posted, ExitMusic! I've been showing it to people left and right!
Haha Onri I was trying to find a link to "This One Time"! I'm glad you posted that. I think that's all flash work so it's really impressive. And so fun!

Here's something great from the endlessly talented James Baxter that a friend of mine stumbled upon. Character tests from Sinbad. What's amazing is not only are they beautiful solid pieces of character work, but not even part of the film. Baxter just did em'.

Its just really clean work. It looks like a good deal of it was heavily referenced or rotoscopped but its not common to see Japanese style animation regardless of age use so many frames. Its good times ^_^ and there are a few kind of lifeless areas but the parts that work work quite well.

Katezila - hey happy I could help! hehe kinda scary that that's all flash :x ; hope this isn't weird but did you meet Richard Williams at the Ottawa Animation Festival last year? got to see him speak there myself and yea it was extremely inspirational; lucky you got to actually meet him!

Thanks for all the great clips once again guys, always love seeing more good animation! Hope it's alright for me to throw a few more things out here...

An amazing short a friend introduced to me a year or two ago.

And student films from Gobelin's third year students; the first one--Un tour de manége--reminds me ALOT of Dudok de Wit's Father and Daughter (posted by ExitMusic above), which is certainly not a bad thing hehe.

I did Onir! I ran into him a few times. First at the picnic, then we ended up at his presentation like, 3 hours before it started and he was sitting around waiting for them to solve tech issues, and then we just sat around the auditorium after the presentation and everyone else left, so he just talked to him again! He signed my copy of survival guide and did a video interview for a little project I did. He was incredibly nice! Impressive considering how exhausting the festival must have been for him. :)

Groundwork books :)

http://search.store.yahoo.net/cgi-bin/nsearch?catalog=animebooks-com&query=groundwork&x=0&y=0

They are all key frames and storyboard type sketches, raw and clean at the same time, and some of them have accompanying x-sheets which is pretty cool to look at too ^_^

:jawdrop: Wow, that's amazing! That you even approached him is impressive to me haha, I was pretty starstruck seeing him on stage! I lucked out being able to even see the presentation; even though I bought my pass way ahead of time I didn't get a ticket to his talk in my bag for some reason.. so I showed up with a friend just as it begun, really just hoping we were going to get in haha. Yea though, that's really really cool; I'm sure he was pretty worn out from the whole thing as you're saying, but he does seem like the sort of person who would go out of his way to help out a fellow animator hehe. I'm definitely a bit green with envy ;)

sly's hand - oo very nice! didn't realize there we such book out there hehe, great learning material. thanks for the link!

I feel obligated to put a link or a video in here if I post in here, so here's a pretty cool short I found off of Motionographer (http://motionographer.com/) yesterday

I have several that always seem to inspire but if I happen to have a particular mood I am going for in a piece I really like some of the animations done by Tomek Baginski, here are two below.

Katerdra (Cathedral) Sci-fi and all round magical. Very atmospheric also.

Fallen Art (Funny)

And the most recent is blood trail. This was done by The Nathan Love Team. Extreme gore, you have been warned =3

I'm not sure if these two are continuous to each other (there's many sources for it in that profile).
I just know that this would be kick ass if IMAX would ever think of re-screening it.

Really admire Mamoru Hosoda for his films "The Girl who Leapt Though Time" and "Summer Wars" infact summer wars was basically the thing that made me go. "I wana do this!"

Here is an ending he directed for an anime, I really like the simple idea and design. He handles alot of things this way

*Edit*

I'm really surprised I havnt shared this yet considering I watch it very frequently. Same guy directing it Mamoru Hosoda.

Awww the thread got stickied! I should really come on here more.
So many awesome things posted!

To anyone wondering about Gobelins, since they've popped up a few times here. What I know of it is they're a school in France with a very intense entrance exam. Many of the students there have prior education or industry experience. I think they're easily the finest school in the world right now. :)
Every year there students make a few signal films for the Annecy Animation Festival, and they're always a fantastic example of good film making and concept in just 30 seconds.
You can watch all of the student work at the schools site, it just only seems to show in french so it's a jungle to get through.

After The Rain is my favorite.

Damn that is one talented and dedicated high school student.
I'm a big fan of "sakuga" videos which collect some of the best animation to come out of Japan. This clip shows some the best stuff out of the film "Sword of the Stranger" along with who the key animator was for each part.

Yea I saw that some months ago, it was pretty good. I dont think they've done anything else though :/

@Vertical - Jesus that's incredible. I wish Gainax had done all of the new Marvel Anime stuff instead of MadHouse. I think it's probably the worst stuff I've seen from them.

Hey guys,

I watched "Spirited Away" this weekend and wow, I was blown away.

I'm not the biggest follower of Anime styled animations, but this really changed my mind (although I did go through a religious dragon ball Z stage)

What blew me away even more was the behind the scenes which is available on youtube and sub titled as well! Super interesting, I think these guys took 1.5 yrs to make it, and started with a team of 20 animators, but then doubled it to reach the deadline.
