Coloring a grayscale image

Anyone have advice on coloring a grayscale image in PS, or a link to a tutorial or something. I've been sketching in grayscale and then trying to color using different layer modes, but so far nothing seems to look quite right, its either too saturated or blown out.

Use the Overlay layer for starters. You'll probably have to go back over it with a normal layer to make corrections though.
