Learning to draw... learning to live

Hi! I am a 26 years old (maybe too old to learn how to draw) brazilian art student.

English isn´t my main language, so forgive me if I make some mistake.

The following block is a lot of talk. You can skip it if you like.

I have been watching this forum almost everyday for at least 2 years now. This has been always a source of inspiration to me to keep drawing and studying.

Now, I think it is time to start a sketchbook here and have some critics, advices and knowledge from the amazing artists among here.

Lately I´ve been thinking a lot about the meaning of being an artist and live from art. And I realized Art is not just about technic and skills. It is about creativity and expression as well. And this is all about life. How the artist perceive the world around him.

So, the goal to this sketchbook is not just about learn to draw, but learn to live, be more creative, express my feelings and be more sensitive. Interact with different people. See the world from another point of view.

26 is not too old. Neither is 46, 66 or 96 for that matter.
I like the inks and your anatomical studies are well done. Keep up the good work.

For you to say 26 is too old to start is as to say 103 is too young to be a breakdancer,:teeth: (im sure there would be a lot of breaking) it's crazy talk and besides you show great potential and your SB ROCKS! :D
oh and 1 more thing, a guy i know started playing the violin in his 80's, your never too old :) (not that your playing the violin) you get the point :teeth:

Very nice careful studies. I like them. I was doing that too, using red for muscles. I remember that photo on dA and think you missed the girl's proportions.

The man with no name: Thank you! Sometimes I see very young artists doing awesome drawing / illustration that make me feel a little disappointed. There is a long road to reach that level. And I am already 26 years old (27 soon). Ok... I´ll try not to be depressed and don´t compare myself with others.

Pois é, cara, parece que o destino da maioria dos estudantes de design hoje em dia é virar macaquinho webdezáiner... bom, eu pelo menos prefiro me destacar do montinho e ir atrás do que eu realmente gosto, sem pensar nas dificuldades. Eu também fui lurker aqui durante um bom tempo, sempre fazendo uns rabisquinhos modestos na aula, adiando o estudo sério em casa. Mas estou trabalhando para mudar isso agora.
Você não é velho. Muitas pessoas só descobrem que estão perdendo tempo por não correr atrás dos sonhos depois dos 30, considere-se sortudo!

A propósito, adorei as mãos e o fusquinha (por razões sentimentais ^^ hihihi)

You are doing a great job at all you pencil work/study..
It shows you take your time and put in alot of effort to get someting right!

For Christ sake man, you are not too old at all!
I can understand how you managed to make this an issue since so easily we can find so many young geniuses of 21 or even younger rocking with awesome art around here. Regardless, we both came from the same country and things are very different from us down here, so don't get yourself fooled. Things would be different if you were born in America or Europe, and photoshop is making things even faster for younglings.

Look at my chaotic case:
I started studying laws (17yo), after dropping out I started filmmaking! Only after that I started the fine arts course at UFRJ, which taught me how to paint modern art with paints(!!!), useless crap and not what I wanted.
My parents didn't know the illustration profession (and look, my father is an architect!). So I had to find out for myself how to be that. I'm 28 (today is my birthday) and I still struggling bravely and happily. Better than become a frustrated lawyer.

Your stuff is pretty good and you are in the right way. Don't worry too much. Just don't quit and keep practicing.

And I'm with Hellfire, dude. Don't give up, by any circunstance. There is no "too old" or "too young" in this area. Just keep on kicking butts with those artworks. I'll keep an eye out! :D
