hey, does anyone know what you need in your portfolio if you are applying to be a color stylist? it was recommended to me that i look into this, but i don't know what kinds of samples i should do... my website is
www.valeriefletcher.com, it is set up primarily for character design right now. if any one has any suggestions, that would be helpful. thanks!

Hi!

Color styling portfolio I would look at the same character at different times of day and night and in various weather and climat conditions – all according to the script and production requirements.

Jimmy Cricket for example had something like 37 colors in the feature and only 12 colors in the TV show (check out the chapter on colors in the book "Illusion of Life")

The point here is to tell the emotions and mood of the character and the sequence and scene in question.

So if you do say 5 to 10 different characters as turn-around model sheets and then color each and every one of them for say 5 different time of day and/or moods/emotions then you should end up with a nice portfolio with around 25-50 turnarounds with a wide select of characters and creatures as color style sheets.

Of course you can always offer to do a test if the client already has some of their own characters developed.

Hope this helped,
Leopoldo
