View Full Version : Ideas that come to me

Since I seem to be doing a lot of digital painting lately I've just decided to go ahead and start a thread for them. So, from now on I'll post new items in this thread. Comments and suggestions for improvements and themes are alway welcome.

This idea came this morning. I found it funny that what if Logan was being shot up and while pissing him off the one thing that sends him over the edge is having the cherry blown off his cigar. Aww, humor. I love it.

It would be a better idea for you to start a Sketchbook rather than upload everything into the Finally Finished section.

You've got a good style and nice enough brushwork but as a character depiction, this doesn't work. The character talks like Wolverine, has the same hairstyle and affinity for cigars but he looks uncomfortable and chubby.

This kind of image should really show more of Wolverine but you're hiding him outside the frame (you don't even show his signature claws) - if I had to guess, it's because you don't feel comfortable with rendering anatomy yet and that's another good reason to get yourself a Sketchbook started.

Try mixing it up with the colors too. ;)

Neech,

Thanks for the reply and the compliments on style and brushwork!

As to "hiding" the anatomy the way you see it is the way I meant to do it. I meant to limit the palette and I meant to have the shot from the mid-waist up. I can understand and agree with what you have said if everything I did was not intentional.

I didn't want to show his claws. I think enough people know what SNIKT means to understand that just under the frame he has popped them.

But seriously, thank you for taking the time to comment on this. It is much appreciated. I take every comment/crit to heart and consideration for the next piece I do. As to starting the sketch thread: it's not a bad idea, but the thing I never do is push things to finish and by posting in the Finally Finished section it will make me do just that. Will everything I put up be completely polished? Probably not, but it will stand on its own as a piece.

Hey Marc,

No worries and I completely understand where you're coming from - I'm also a firm believer that sometimes an artist has to stick with their original vision irregardless of what others may feel (unless it's a client who's paying you to do a specific thing... then everyone has to just suck it up :P). That's the only way we can ever progress and new ideas become evident.

If this is your vision and this is just a personal piece for you, stick with it. ;)

Here are two older ones that I've already posted, but I want to collect them in this thread. Feel free to post comments, etc.

Hey Marc,

I think it wouldn't hurt to get into some serious anatomical study at this point. On the guy with the bolt on his chest (some sort of bizzaro captain marvel?) the way his deltoid is inserting into his arm is just plain wrong. It should wrap over the bicep and insert between the brachialis and bicep on the lateral side of the upper arm.

Thanks, Jason.

That area in particular has been a weak point of mine and I do need to work on it.

I have some updates. I haven't been able to get back to the Black Adam piece yet and might not be able to at all.

Here are updates to the Superman and Wolverine images.

I also did some watercoloring this weekend.

This is done on Strathmore cold press 140# watercolor paper at a size of 12x18. It has been cropped because I had to scan it in parts because my scanner is only US letter size.
