Hello all, me and my fiance have been busy the last year+ working on a realtime 3D terrain editor, paint and modeling program. It is free, easy-to-use (I hope) and a lot of fun to work with! We ran a beta test for a couple of months to eliminate the worst bugs, and now since it is at a stabile and mature, productive level (although far from being ready) we would love for more people to try it out, so we can get more feedback - especially from artists - and optimize it as good as possible for the artistic workflow.

Many of the existing tools are rather complicated to use and we hope we have managed to create something more pleasing for the artist. Artifex is like common 2D paint programs very brush-centric and does support artpads. The program comes with a set of low-poly trees, plants, buildings and textures (Ogre3D .mesh format) ready to use, so all you have to do is install and sit down to play around!

The editor itself is based on the Ogre3D graphics engine (www.ogre3d.org), but most of the output is very generic, PNG heightmap & textures, the terrain shader is in CG, textbased config files.

this is fantastic - controls resemble other game engine terrain setups. I haven't had a chance to dissect this too much-will have more time later- great looking app.

Woho, more feedback! :steph:

Yes, we tried to make the controls reasonable, familiar and easy to use, while still aiming for a good workflow. Almost everything is accessible with hotkeys and the hotkeys are written on the controls for easy memorization. People used to the typical 2D image processor and paint programs should feel right at home with the features. :)
