Newest art on recent posts, obviously!
First, I have to say I am very scared to be here, but I feel that it's in my best interests to do so, to evolve my art.
I am scared because I do an anime-esque style that I am fully aware is not appreciated or welcomed here. However, it is what I enjoy the most, but I do so want to improve it. I want to be a professional artist with developing the style in my drawings, primarily in illustrating, comicing, and conceptual design.
I will take heed to the advice and critique I get (and I really love when people red-line my stuff to show me what's off) and I am aware that drawing realism is a key component to evolving, so I beg of you not to tell me to stop drawing the style I do entirely. (Not meaning don't tell me to practice in realism, I know I should, and I will.) Also, though I guess technically it is called anime style, I have to say my drawing style is much, much more inspired by video games.
And so...a little about me.
Name: Jenna, but for my art things I will always sign them as O-mie.

Don't be scared! Not everyone does the same thing, your pictures are lovely :)
I'm not into anime myself, so I'm most interested in the bird you've drawn and Davy Jones. They're looking very nice!
There's nothing wrong with doing some studies of human anatomy either, try posemaniacs.com :)
Very pretty start to your sketchbook :P

Hi O-mie and welcome to CA! I'm glad you took the plunge :)
Like Elz said, no need to be scared. I think your art is overall really pleasant and has some solid basics. Your more anime-esque work isn't what I'd call off the "generic kind" either, it has your personal touch to it which makes it unique. Definitely try to further your personal style, but along with a fair amount of the necessary studies which will make them even stronger.
I hope you'll update frequently! Subscribed :sungod:

There's nothing wrong with doing Manga style. It's only when people think it's the easy way out that they get problems from the community. ;) Your stuff is great and you got solid skills. Nice concepts, well executed with polish. You'll do just fine here.....
......... although if being scared makes you bring your A-Game like this (or better) then stay scared........... :)

Anime is fine, and you're definitely adept at your style. It's good that you're scared (though you shouldn't be, it's a friendly community), because staying out of your comfort zone keeps you pushing to improve.
I suggest that you try out other styles however, not to change your style from anime or anything, but if you try out other styles for a bit here and there, and find that you really enjoy anime more, then you'll feel a lot better about the style you use. :)
You have some very nice work here, the Davy Jones pic is very cool.

Thanks for the welcomes and comments!
And yeah, one thing I looked forward to to trying was varying styles for practicing. Mm, I never have been to posemaniacs, but I will definitely go there.
On my computer back in the USA I also have a link to a site with many poses and such (some you can rotate around like they were a model) so I will share that too. (It is a Japanese site, but easy to understand and use.)
I am feeling a bit braver to post now, but still a bit scared, haha. I just woke up so I don't have anything yet today, but I might try some later!

Lol, I feel like a ditz. The Japanese site I mentioned is actually just a japanese version of pose maniacs. orz.
Anyways, A couple small updates. The first is an in-progress sketch I am working on for somebody who commissioned me. (It's their character so not much I can do, I did however use pose maniacs to reference the pose, though its not the same exactly)
The second image is something I did for myself to practice coloring. I don't usually color in that style, but it was pretty relaxing to do it, so I might do it time to time. Just takes longer than my usual stuff.

Nice last update!
That new colouring technique looks very pretty and soft. I bet that blending took its time!
I wonder if you've tried the opposite? That is, going for a rougher style, not so much blending and more blocking in? I'm sure the results could be interesting!
Now give us more :)

I just got out of the E.R a couple days ago, so I won't be able to update a bit untli I am feeling better. x_x Still have to do some more tests and crap when I get back to america, ergh. Anyways...
@mischievous
I will give it some tries, I like having a softer style on my females, but when I think about it, I tend to like more "anatomical" male faces, like Akuma from street fighter, or something along those lines.
@asa
Hm yeah, it sounds fun :D I actually think the more "painty" process of digital colring is a lot more fun than CG, even if CG is more crisp.
@Omen
Thank you~

Back in America, posting some updates now. I need to really sit down and do some more realistic practices. I didn't really have a lot of time or resources to do them in Finland.
The pictures I uploaded from oldest to newest, except for the 3 sketch compilations on the top.
I know I need to desperately improve on hands and feet. I am doing a lot of practices from RL with them to try to improve. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
With the Valkyrie drawing, I already discussed what was wrong with her anatomy with m'love. I just couldn't go back and fix it because by the time we talked about it, I was too far in the picture. lmao.
Lastly, a small characterization of yours truly. (I wanted a new I.D for my deviantart.)
Anyways, I just got back from Finland, so I will draw more and more once I get relaxed back here. I miss Finland a lot, and I want to go back to m'love. ;_;

Hey, welcome back! Glad to see new art from you :) And thanks for the sub over at my SB!
I think your drawing style is so appealing! You're actually quite good at drawing different poses, characters and outfits--many fall into the pit of drawing the same face in the same pose, over and over. You have plenty of variety, albeit within a very specialized genre. Oh, and your little selfportrait has so much life to it!
The hands studies at the beginning are really promising. Well, you said yourself you'd probably have the time for more realistic studies now, so I'll be looking forward to those :teeth:

July 29th, 2009, 07:54 PM
xD Ty! I was going to focus the realistic studies into characterizations too, to flex the ol' creative muscle. (Like the art in tolkien's stuff. :3) I think what deters me from wanting to do realistic things is that I get bored by it, and I feel like, "Oh I could be putting so much more effort into creative things, I don't wanna be bored!" lmao. Well, we'll see how it will turn out!

I haven't had a chance to sketch too much lately yet...but here are some things. I think I am going to make myself a list of "inspirations" to do sketches of. Should help with widening subjects. :D
