I'm not sure if this group qualifies as a punk band because I've only heard one song by them. I also can't find any information on them. The band is 1,000 Mona Lisas.

i gotta back keyth up.

NoMeansNo is one of the BEST bands that no one has ever heard of. they are my favorite band still. one of the few punk bands that i can still listen to over and over again after all of these years.
but they are more than a punkband really... they are the direction punkrock should have gone in. in my opinion.
"Wrong" is there pinacle punk album.. "0+2=1" is a good one.
sexmad is also good.

also,, another great band that youve probably never heard of is "the lee harvy oswald band"
it has members of the didgits.
good luck finding a disc.

i love sexmad. 'obsessed' and 'dad'....mmmmmm, yummy stuff!!! john wright was always such a big drumming influence on me.

daarken, not really sure what type of punk bands you are looking for. 'Cows' aren't really that "1,2,3,4 1,2,3,4"(said really fast" type of punk. but they always played at the punk venues in Austin when i lived there. i recommend cunning stunts or sexy pee story. twisted stuff but raw as hell.

I don't know if they're punk, but you might want to check out Fugazi.

nova
November 8th, 2002, 06:28 PM
yes, please listen to fugazi, one of the groups that started punk. they have a cool sound, not blatantly punk and kind of lazy and spicy.

amphex
November 8th, 2002, 09:54 PM
Yes. fugazi. The ultimate in underground punk =)
But some of the newer punky stuff Ive been getting into (and I dont know why..lol) is the pop-punk-rock type stuff such as:

Finch
The Used
Thursday
Saves the Day (some of their stuff..)

and alot more..I cant remember them all now, because I had alot of stuff downloaded from alot of bands, then my harddrive died on me, and I cant remember them now =P

Lono

Fugazi is really not that old... although Ian Mickay was in Minor Threat,, which was one of the early bands in the American punk movement... first punk band i ever got into actually.
we called it Skate Rock then. hah!

i still love minor threat, but i do believe i appreciate Fugazi more now. there sound is more mature.

Gaawwd! i sound like a Geezer... im only 24!

gonna see the casualties tonight probably...just wanna stand back in awe of their hair. best hair in any band i've seen. haha, and their music's fun to run around to, but in the end, it's all about the hair. and seeing how many ultra punks show up from the suburbs...

Lono
December 13th, 2002, 12:13 AM
remember that assy punk band Total Chaos?
those guys had turbo hair... and you know those guys spent 3 hours in the bathroom every morning. that band was a joke.
glam punk.... bleh.

ill have some chips and a bowl Total Caso.

shit, total chaos still plays...I saw them this summer at the warped tour, they were real displeased about being there...I guess it wasn't underground enough for them, heh. Anyway, the bassist sang a song about being pulled over and given a breathalyzer for the way he looked...and spent the night in jail...how unfair...just for drinking and driving...aww.. and the cops and the guys in jail made fun of the way he looked...aww. poor guy with a 3 foot pink mohawk and tons of metal shit in his face. every band wants a reason for the "fuck the police" song, pretty lame that's the only thing they could come up with. not like I'm a big fan of law enforcement myself, but that song was just lame. boo total chaos.

AFI<AFI<AFI. U have to listen to their music. Amazing stuff. my fave punk band. I know it was mentioned already but I just love their music:p

cotron
December 13th, 2002, 02:24 AM
yea I'd agree on that. AFI is one of those bands that constantly surprises me. They're on dreamworks now...which sucks, not necessarily because they'll sound different, but the fact I'll never have fun seeing them live again. But, if anyone deserves recognition, it's them...but I just hope they don't sound like shit on the new label. remember h2o? I used to love them, but now I can't stomach them at all.

I should just live in this thread... I should be studying for a big art history test in a few hours, but I find this forum so much more interesting ;)

Lono
December 13th, 2002, 03:56 AM
yah,, the "fuck the police" song is tired and lame..... i hate that whiney "lifes no fair" side of punk... blah..

although Jello did it with class.. that man has done his homework.
he gets a bit carried away sometimes,, but at least you can tell hes really thinking.

remember "Mission Of Burma"? that was a weird space in time. those guys and the Minutemen marked a strange stage in the evolutionary process of american punkrock. my personal favorite period.

people dont seem to be exploring anymore. thats my bigest complaint about modern punk. it kinda goes against the nature of its device in actuality.

Dead Kennedys
AFI (man, EVERYONE likes them...)
Well, I thought I had more than that, but I mostly listen to alternative stuff like Pixies, Toadies, Sonic Youth...
Anyone like the Melvins?

Sadclown
December 14th, 2002, 01:21 AM
You know Jello does Campus tours these days, giving lectures? One of my friends picked up a CD, and that's all it was, just a lecture given at some university. Yeah, his overall message may have been 'fuck the police (or any authority for that matter)', but you gotta give the dude credit, he's super smart.
