i draw characters after thinking how they should look like, but it takes alot of erasing to get them to look like how it should and then the paper starts to get imprinted with heavy pencil marks and paper gets ripped from over erasing.

But hardest part is having to draw the person again.

how do you draw characters from your imagination and then draw the same character over again without tracing or copying but drawing from your imagination over again?

You don't really say what it is you're getting 'wrong' when drawing them so it's hard to offer advice - is it the anatomy, the faces, what they're wearing etc... try to pinpoint the problem specifically; draw it from life or look at a lot of reference pictures and practice. If you have trouble seeing what the actual problem is yourself but know it doesn't look quite right, maybe try putting some work in the critique section.

In regards to the paper thing - I used to use card to draw on instead of paper. It would hold up against a lot more erasing. Alternatively, investing in a drawing tablet would make the problem less of a factor if you still end up with a lot of excess lines in your work.

Focus on the overall structure of the head, work from big to small untill you find our weakpoints then hammer those till you get them down.

remeber the head is a (generally) predictable and balanced form, you just need to learn the form then tweak it till you get what you want.

(find the loomis books if you havnt, they'll give you the info you need)

as for actually placing your lines, i make a few light random marks on the paper, then i will become inspired by the 'chaos' and be able to clearly see what i want to draw, and again i then just go from large to small untill i have somthing similar to what i want infront of me :P

although i have no idea how to approach colour . . . :dead:
