View Full Version : Teen Challenge 67: [[Between Two Worlds]]

TEEN CHALLENGE 67
Idea by K. Forthun, changed a bit by Dave_.
I took over only this Teen Challenge so it will not be forgotten. (I will let Dave_ continue on number 68 etc..)

The Rules:
Anyone ages 13-19 may submit an entry at any time before the deadline. Please host your image on a remote image-hosting site instead of uploading it to the CA server. This makes it much easier to transfer it to the poll thread.

The Topic:
You can have multiple versions of this - there are no restrictions!
You can display a person stuck within his/her own mind and reality. Maybe a demon between hell and the normal world. What about the gate to heaven?

Think outside the box is all I can say! A fight or struggle between light and dark can also be seen as "between" two worlds, right?

Well... Do not be limited to my fantasy and imagination... Get out there and DRAW! (Any form of media is allowed, ofcourse).

IMPORTANT
1. Add a border around your image with your name and the topic, like they do with the other of the week challenges.
2. Please do not use attachment manager, but outside host your image.
3. Mark your final as final

The Deadline:
Saturday 11th of July, 2 weeks and 1 hour.

I'm thinking about a Little Mermaid themed one. Not the Disney one of course, more off the traditional story.

Looking good there Hunch! I'm not entirely sure which concept I'll choose, i'll give this one a thought ^^ A deep one for sure.

Since this theme has plenty of possibilities, I'm figuring out how to give this a most dynamic and fluent effect between the world/realms etc... :D

hunchback
June 27th, 2009, 10:43 PM
yeah man, nice :D

chipin away!

after looking at this online i realized her head isnt in proportion to the rest of her body.. :( ill have to fix that.

Demons_Nightmare

man so many many possibilities, i mean its near endless on what you can do with this which is great, but wracks my brain to think of wat conceptual route to take,
3 ideas

Idea 1 - 5 pannels, one sitting in the middle of the 4 others, top 2 is one kid who has an awesome family and life, bottom kid has a crap family and life compareed in his mind to the first, middle pannel shows them both at school and as best friends, ie the difference between their 2 worlds,

Idea 2 - landscape shaped panel enviro, with one side being a modern industrialised city and the other being a very earthly mudhut wookie style place with a gorge between both civilazations, and over the gorge both are working together to build a bridge,

Idea 3 - good and evil stylized one, 2 versions both the same idea, angel on upper side fighting a demon on the lower in hand to hand, or on the left side a demon/devil leaning against a pole which has a rope that is tide to a persons arm, from the other arm of the person is another rope wich an angel is trying to pull, but as u should be able to tell can't, because the demon/devil is a tricky bugger.

so yeah those were my main ideas, the first one sounds the best too me but would take sooo much bloody time for me, seeing i suck with faces and showing any emotions sides anger,

give me ur opinions coz i am torn between them, :D

hope to see as many entries as the last one, good fun

June 28th, 2009, 08:21 AM
I dunno if this actually fits the theme too well .__.

Is kinda vaguely realistic demon vs. cel shaded demon.

http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm257/IkeFrog/Twoworlds27-6-09.jpg

Either that or something blargh and generic with demons vs. angels.

Jamie Romoser
June 28th, 2009, 01:30 PM
everyones entrys are looking awsome so far!

hunchback-Dang man thats really looking sick so far. really like the way you handle faces so delicate.

Demons_Nightmare- I like idea 2 the most man that sounds very interesting! second runner up would be idea 3

ike_ike-You have a awsome name! Really cool idea maybe a clash of two styles.

Heres my mess. I have no idea were this is going its fun though

I should be making a great many changes. This more or less serves as a placeholder really... Hopefully. Assuming I can keep up my recent motivation.
There's supposed to be a glass or plastic-wrap type barrier between the two "worlds."

Cool theme we've got here.
For those it might interest, there's been a recent contest on DA looking much like this theme in a way: the Intuos 4 one "Bring Your Vision To Life".
lots of cool stuff there if anyone needs some ideas.
But as Mtijn said, think outside the box =D

Ok so i'm quite new to this.. so here's some quick sketches I did...
the top is a girl being sort of entranced/sucked into a computer screen, and the bottom is looking down at someone surrounded by the paraphernalia of two different lives.

i'm really tempted to be lazy and submit this piece as my final as it fits one of the suggestions, an earthbound demon, half human, half something else idea... so thats a possibility!
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k102/kraken543/Mortred-1.jpg

but i think making a totally new artwork is more impressive.. and due to my love of the theme technology and magic, goblins and the game arcanum, am cracking into my steamblood goblin trio Weasley, Cobb and Hertzog. and i have an excuse to draw a steam powered mech!

If anyone is interested, I sort of had this going on but lost momentum and forgot where I was going with it. it was supposed to be looking into the other world through the mirror. I'll probably work on it some more later or start a new one.

do we have to draw humans...? can we draw animals....? ^ ^ (drawing animals demons monsters etc= my strength)

Mtijn
July 2nd, 2009, 05:24 PM
You're not restricted to people, you don't see any humans in Auncer's work, do you?

You're free to use anything, as long as you stick to the theme. If you are unable to tell why it should respresent "Between two worlds" then it doesn't add to the subject you're supposed to follow.

You could also use a connection between cyberspace and robots... Mechanics can be used as well, even cities (A bridge between two cities, sure thing!). Stuff like that.

You're also able to draw two houses - a poor and cranky one and on the other side draw a rich and beautiful house with the neighbours fighting inbetween.

Ye, I just made these up, so you can do this to!

This is definitely my first post ever in this whole website, sadly it's a lame post. I am hoping to join this and put quite a bit of effort into it. I love all the entries so far, it's absolute fun to see different perspectives on the phrase. For my entry, I have no clue what I am doing, so I am just going to go with what comes up first in my head and edit it along the way. Surely I will put some WIP's up ;].

Early sketch, just starting to ink it in.

Basically this guy's gonna be trapped in between the ordinary world, and the world of his imagination.

Hence the scary monsters and weird porportions.

Looking at it now he looks kinda like the scream painting doesn't he?

More to come.

Jerik, I love your piece, no doubt about that. But I cannot see which two "worlds" should be represented here? A dwarf engineer who decided to be a robot mechanic?

Could you tell me where you see the thread theme in your piece so I can see it to? :)

firstly Mtijn

it is a goblin... dwarves have never been green and unbearded...
...
Jatherip: the style is wierd... but i'm gna keep a hold of it.. just experimenting with multiple lightsources... the major 'whitelight' is from a slightly higher angled left hand side of the image

and yet again i am saddened by the teen challenge's lack of descriptors upon posting for finals...
mine is a combination of the entities of technology and magic
...unless all robots have glowy runes... guess i screwed up...

P
July 8th, 2009, 06:21 AM
technology and magic? i see technology, and.... ....magic? goblin must have something with magic? right? i dont know stuff about goblins or dwarves or somekind of robots from fantasy video games or books that you must know. if you know it, it doesnt mean other people will know it and will understand it too... i think next time make sure that your picture will be readable and understandable for all of us. :)

Demons_Nightmare
July 8th, 2009, 06:52 AM
jerik bro, nice work man, sweet detail and everything, stop frosting ur highlights pisses me off lol, and yeah ur lightsource needs a defined spot even if ur working with reflections, because u have no enviro around one light source would help ur pic and u be able to learn that skill.... and man have to agree with mtijn not really on topic from were i am, looks like u play way too much wow or a game like it, get of that stuff ruins lives, addicts deny it but it does, and yes all robots have glowing ruins in fantasy PC games, general knowledge there bro, heheheee man i love stirin,

but yeah bro runes and shiz done sweet, robot is super duper uber l33t in contrast to my skill lvl, and work on the shading and define lightsource and u will shine like a small kitten burning in a fire, :D

_edit_ magic and technology, aint between 2 worlds u get that stuff right here in earth ba, draw urself playin a game, then u be between 2 worlds,

(i cant really talk seeing i probs wont enter coz i am doing a NSW school graphics comp and thats due on the 9th, and my aldi's graphics tab decided to shite itself)

Jerik
July 9th, 2009, 06:22 AM
guess i screwed up... again!

i was under the impression that big shiny glowy runes and magic mystical circles aren't the most common creation to adorn a robot powered by steam... guess i was wrong...

maybe not the sword necessarily... but at least the intricate cluster of blue shininess on the arm...

between two worlds is a very vague topic, i translated as an entity powered by two sources of power, a technological shell and a magic armoury with a heart of steam and sorcery...

well.. it was a vague description and i saw the oportunity to create a hybrid of two commonly conflicting ... things!

this is similar to what Pijus and John Isaacson have done... what'd i do that was so very wrong...?

Mtijn
July 13th, 2009, 10:54 AM
It wasn't that clear to me that those beings were integrated :) It looked more like the dwarf is controlling the robot.

John_Isaacson and Pijus made the critters as one whole, but I couldn't find that in your entry :) Nonetheless I understand your description now ^^ Thanks for clearing it up! :D

Jerik
July 16th, 2009, 09:03 AM
the inability to link the two factors and integrate them appears tobe only your problem... after explaining it most people figured it out...

and, firstly am confused when last you saw a green beardless dwarf with such massive ears, and secodly.. how does the controller effect this piece at all?
