Team name: Leaiva Online
Project name: Leaiva Online
Brief description: Leaiva Online is a persistent world role-playing game that has been in development for over two years. Leaiva Online currently has several features of a traditional MMORPG, however, the game is not being designed around a large amount of players. This means we are trying to incorporate the great aspects of single player RPGs while allowing a very fun multiplayer world. My main goal is to create a world in which a player can feel a part of the world by placing value in aspects more than just fighting (though combat is of course a major part of the game). The visual aspect of Leaiva Online is a 2D tile-based game.
The server is currently up and running to allow developers and friends to test/play the game. The game is also programmed entirely by myself without any pre-built engines. Hopefully having coded everything myself will demonstrate the seriousness of the project. The game is also at a point where a lot of the skeleton is done, which means the artists/designers can easily implement their ideas and see it in game, right away!
The game is already fun, and has a lot of stuff already to it. But don't take my word for it, download and play it now! I go to great lengths to keep the server up and available for everyone to play the game, and hopefully you'll be inspired by the effort of our team and want to join in! If you don't have time to play right now, go ahead and watch some videos, found on YouTube - LeaivaOnline's Channel
Here are a few things already implemented into the game:
- Quests
- Spells with VERY unique mechanics
- Five classes with plans for specializations
- Ranged, melee and spell casting combat!
- Chance attacks like dodge, critical strike, block and more!
- A unique "Wounds" mechanic!
- Experience, levels, functioning stats
- Buffs that affect players, including fun 'reaction' type buffs!
- Art effects for spells/level up/buffs
- Loot (different level monster automatically gets you different loot)
- Vendors
- Paper dolling (different armor, different look!)
- Resource gathering
- Song system where players can make their own songs!
- Day/night cycle
- Party/Group system
- Chat system
- Functioning sound including an opening theme!
- and more!
Target aim: Windows PC release.
Compensation: This project currently is not paid, but could be in the future.
Technology: C plus plus, DirectX 9 and WinSock 2. This puts the game client (and server) at Windows only for now. Possible ports for the client is always something to consider.
- For sound, audiere is being used.
- For the installer, Inno Setup is used.
- The map editor is Tiled, a generic tile map editor which is developed in Java.
- Other tools have been programmed in VB.NET or C++.
Talent needed:
Sprite Artist - Responsible for in game item, NPC, player and spell art.
This is our currently most sought after position. We have had some incredible luck with very talented individuals, and would like to elevate the game further by bringing a talented and dedicated artist.
Terrain Artist - Responsible for developing tilesets of the terrain. It would also be great if you have interest in creating maps since you will be close to the tilesets you develop (and have the skills to tweak small changes).
Mapper/World Designer - Responsible for mapping which may or may not include NPC design for the NPCs found within the maps you make and/or quest design.
This is another position I have really focused on. I have recently created a map testing mechanism right into the game, so you can test your map in game on your own, without waiting for me to specifically add it!
Everyone else interested is encouraged to contact me, as Leaiva can always use talented individuals including artists, designers, audio engineers and programmers.
Team structure:
Jarrett (myself) - Programmer/Lead Developer
Buffo - Terrain Artist
Jacob - Item Sprite Artist
Primoz - Sprite Artist
Ryan - Sound effects/music
Keith - Mapping
Derrick - Mapping
Asaf - Design
Nofar - Icon Artist
Tyler - Project Management
