~To be separated from the grace of the creator is the ultimate punishment for those who only exist to serve him. ~
"How did this happen? We were in the right... weren't we?
We were the true and loyal servants were we not?
We fought to fulfill his plan... to prevent the damage Man would cause.
Why then is this happening to me... Why are we being punished.
We only live to serve... Why?... Why?"

This looks like its going to be an awesome contest I've had several ideas I hope I have time to finish them.
Here is the first idea I'm working on.
The fall of an angel the birth of a demon.

Great atmosphere! Interested to see how you will show the transformation process. Reminds me a little of William Blake's paintings which is very cool.

Thanks for the feedback everyone I'm glad you're liking the idea. Here is an update. Hopefully I will be posting up an image for my second entry that I've been working on sometime this weekend also.

I haven't updated in a bit, but I've been moving the past few weeks. So that will be my excuse ;)
Anyway I've gotten some more done on my demon I feel like I'm getting pretty close to the final on this one.
I wish I would have been able to get it done for the CHOW 164 newborn special... but I was moving and such :)
(see, I knew that excuse would come in handy)
Ah well its more important to have it done by the main due date after all.
I still need to finish up the smaller wings on the left side of the image
and play with the colors a bit more but I feel like its coming along.

Also I have the second piece I've been working on to a point where I fee comfortable posting it.
This is a piece that I based on a sketch I did right after Reverie. I know it might be stretching the topic a bit
but I feel that it fits the idea of bringing something/someone to life. The idea that rescuing someone and bringing
hope to those in need is a rebirth so to speak... Also I figured even if it is decided that it doesn't fit the
Newborn competition then at least it can be a harmless plug for a good cause.

Thanks again for the comments. If anyone has any crits or suggestions please feel free and don't
worry about holding back or anything.
Take care,
Adam

this could be a very strong image if you work out the shadows well.
I would go for darker shadows and different colors.
the light color is almost white and has a lot of red/blue tone, i would change that to a more natural sunlight and tone down the white values. As it is now it looks burned out, the shading needs a lot more range.

Like both concepts immensely, prefer the first for this topic tho, but that's only my two cents worth.

Really like the way you excecuted the first image. The feathers are beautifully rendered. The bat-like wings could be pushed a bit further, but I'm sure you'll get to that. :)

there seems to be two very good ideas here, though I think in the one with the fallen angel; the left arm (closest to the the foreground) the forearm is a bit short and thus doesn't quite sit right with the perspective and flow of the composition. Hope this helps

The demon/anel piece is really strong. I like it alot! keep workin t :D
Something I think would be cool would be if you had the transition between the wins more brutal. Like fleshy broken wings being snapped and molded into demonic wings

Another update on the Fallen Angel.
I've been playing around with the colors trying to add a little more interest and correcting some anatomy issues.
Please let me know if I am making the image to dark. That is one of the more common mistakes I have in my images.
I still have to work a lot on the wings, but hopefully I can find some more time this week to work on those get them up to par with the rest of the piece.
Thanks for all the help.
Take care,
Adam

The angel/demon piece is great! Can't stop staring at it...
I agree with a person above, the "hope" piece looks burned out as it is.

Got a little bit of work done on the wings. Also trying to pull back some of my highlights so that they aren't all blown out. Hoping that I will be able to spend some real time on both of my pieces later this week.

Adam, once again your skills amaze. There's just as many feathers flying here as there are in this competition. ;)
I did just notice that you have three sets of wings, not a bad idea, but slightly difficult to read. Keep on keepin' on man. Looks great!

I think I'm getting pretty close to the end with this one just a little bit of nitpicking I think.

The veins on those wings look so good, great translucency! And his foot in particular has beautiful rendering. Good luck on the contest!
