Hello people, i have been absent from my sketchbook and weekly challenges as i have had to spend the last two months working around the clock, and searching for new jobs to earn the cash to fund for travelling.

Basically i'm reaching out to any artists who have either travelled around the world whilst attaempting to develop there art at the same time, or know any advice they can offer from what they know.

I will be 22 this July, and will begin my travels in Vietnam where i will meet a few mates, from there i will be travelling across the south east asian countrys. I won't be able to take my laptop, so nothing digital will be done, but how can i best utilise my experiences and bring them into developing my art on the go?

Obviously keeping sketchbooks with me, but shall i set out to draw everything such as people, buildings, temples, plantation, animals if i can? or shall i focus on one area and keep things specific?

shall i keep a sketchbook like journal with ideas and notations for future reference?

I don't want my travelling to stop my artistic development so please, anyone with words of wisdom that they can kindly pass onto me, i am determined to use this opportunity to travel the best i can for my future career!

Thankyou

Robbie

James Gurney (http://gurneyjourney.blogspot.com/)has lots of posts on his sketches from life. He has both a "real painting" set up and one to do ink washes in a sketchbook.
As for what you should paint, well, it depends on your interests, no? You'll be working from life, so anything you do will help you improve anyways.

Hi Qitsune,

Thanks!
Yeah i suppose, i will prob have to stick to either pencil or ink, as i will be on the move most of the time. I need to better myself with form and lighting. As well as everything else, i just need to try and keep sketchbook on me at all times

I have never travelled abroad, but I would recommend taking a camera with you, so incase you dont have time to draw or sketch something, you can take a photo of it and finish it later. The pictures could also aid you in the future too, as you never know when you could need to refer back to them.

Thanks Spirit, yeah i was planning on taking a camera with me.
I was just wondering what subjects a computer game artist director might want to see in a student's sketchbook frokm travelling abroad.
Would they be more impressed with evidence of all studys, such as people, environments, animals objects, clothing, items, textures etc etc.

I suppose it all depends on how well you analyse subjects with form and lighting and texture anyway.
If there is anyone else out there reading this who can offer some more tips i would be very grateful and it would encourage me even more!

thanks
