Looking for help getting started with watercoloring

Hey guys.

I have been using water color pencils lately, and having some fun doing it but I'm kind of lost as to good process and techniques and whatnot with them. Can some of you provide links to your favorite watercoloring tutorials?

Please don't say anything like "google is your friend" or other such nonsense. Google is now blocked where I live.

Watercolor is one of the greatest painting mediums in my opinion, it can be very enjoyable and the beautiful colors you can achieve with it are timeless.

As for process, it's pretty much an additive medium. you go from light to dark and that's mostly all there is to the "process" of painting with watercolor. Take your time and choose your colors wisely.

According to my experience with it, it's all about discipline and patience. Control that water and direct it's flow. Though there may be times when you use too much water and it can become destructive and unforgiving or it can yield some interesting effect.

watercolor pencils can be your best friend when it comes to details, i've used them often and they are very helpful. especially when your brush just can't get any more fine tipped.

you could experiment with masking techniques, using liquid mask, masking tape, etc. there is a lot you can do with it.

though fine detail and photo-realism can be difficult to achieve with watercolor. Though i believe it's the one medium that can train you well in color theory.

Try Talens or other brand of liquid watercolors since they are more forgiving and are more vibrant.

With watercolor the quality of your materials makes a difference. For example you can do an oil painting on printer paper and still get it to turn out well, but you need good paper for watercolors. You should get one of those hollow brushes with water inside the handle too.

Hey guys thanks a lot for the replies! I did a sketch in pen and water color and it turned out better than expected, but still lots of issues. I am liking the medium so far though.

On a side note, Google is now unblocked, but we'll see for how long.
