Hi guys, Been reading for a while but this is my first post. Here is a link to my fist tablet drawing in PS. http://home.comcast.net/~mbowers01/unrefined.jpg
If you are familiar with transformers at all, it is an updated version of Bluestreak from the 84 series. The original bot was a 280z, so here he is as a 350z.
I'm looking to improve so be honest.

The idea is very cool. However the back of the 350z isnt as tall as his legs are. Might want to think about another way to draw them.
I love the chest and the rest of the transformer!!!
Wonder what he would look like all riced up with a phat exhaust?

Not sure what you mean by the back of the 350z. The shins turn around and fold up on back of the thighs when he transforms. Any way I have a good reference, as I own the car, lol. Thanks for the comments!

It doesnt matter if you own the car or not, it is still slightly inaccurate. Either way, my question is, how does the waist area support those legs?? right now it looks like the legs arent even connected to the bot. There needs to be some sort of connection there, a joint of some sort in order for those legs to work

The hatch on your legs is too tall.

Its more sloped like this. In your rendering the hatch seems so tall that it might be a 350z Minivan.

I see what you mean. I think that is just my poor attemtp at perspective, you know, making the legs looks like they are coming right out at you. Maybe if I just tone it down some.
Thanks

Another transformer fan and you've got some really nice line work and colours goin' on here. I don't know the car so I won't comment on those issues. The hand gripping onto the gun seems a little off. For future images, think about what the character is doing. At the moment he seems to be floating a little bit and almost falling over to the left of screen. The way his legs are in space is also a little weird. His left leg goes pretty much straight down while his right comes straight out at the viewer. Yet there is no noticeable difference in size of the lower legs - means the foreshortening and perspective is off a little. Just a thought

Exactly Matt, thanks. I was trying to draw him sort of jumping into action. Perspective and line of motion type stuff, which make things look fluid and natural, are my weak areas. Any hints or drill on how to improve on that, or is it just a matter or experience?

Perspective - in the very beginning, even at a thumbnail stage, figure out your perspective and use vanishing point(s). Even if you are just drawing a few simple boxes (ones for arms, legs, torso and head) and have these in perspective, it will help get a sense of the character in 3D space. Once this is working, then you can start going in and detailing the individual elements. Since you got the large shapes in believeable perspective in the beginning, that will help set the framework for the drawing. No amount of detail will hide perspective that is off.
