Hey everyone,

Happy new years!

Been a while since i posted; just way too busy lately with work. I'll try to post more often this year....

But....i couldn't pass this up. Saw a thread here that featured a sci-fi vehicle for carrying chickens....haha, what a combination....love it! So here's my version, inspired from the original. This one is for carrying chicken eggs instead...gotta protect those eggs in the post-war future...haha.

It's a quick sketch.........drawn using Painter 6.

And here's the rough sketch....also done in painter...

Hehe... sci-fi chicken transport veichle HAHAhoho :D

Cant keep from laughing...

As cool as usual, It has been way too long since the last time I saw something new from you.

So it's true you do all your sketches in Painter nowadays? No more markers and hi-tec-c pens?

(By the way, in Hong Kong the hi-tec-c pens is sold very cheap in every bookstore. 12 hkdollars which is about 1.4 american dollars. Bought me a stock of them, here in Sweden they cost about the trice of that and is hard to find)

haha that's absolutely fantastic.

the dirt track on the ground is a great addition.

btw may i ask, why 6 over 8? I can understand why 6 can be better than 7, but i believe 8 takes most all the perks from the earlier verisons.

Boy...

well.. here is the original thread - http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16040

and thank you Feng for this lovely piece - once again shows what these boards are all about.

oppolus - i hope this will come as good energy boost for you. Save both pictures and make a poster with them. Hang it in your room (not everybody gets an art reply from Feng).
And make damn sure you'll draw like Feng in few years, ok?
We'll be here waiting to be amazed.
Thx again Feng.

Hi Feng,

Great image, I love the way you did the lighting.

What you call a quick sketch would be a finished image to me if I made it. Amazing...

p.s. thanks for the "How I work" part on your website, that's why I decided to learn to draw a year ago.

Cool! Very nice concept!

Is it a coincidence, my fancifulness or intended? The whole vehicle looks like a chicken head...:)

btw the front triangle wheel (i don't know the word) looks a little bit off perspectively...but maybe it's my phantasy again

Share more stuff with your disciples ;)

Is it safe to assume that you draw with a tablet that is also a monitor? Coz I don't see how else you can have such straight lines like that. Anyone care to answer?

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone! It really inspires me to work harder and post more often =) I've started to work on several person projects, so i'll post samples from time to time.

Okay, let me try to answer some questions..

The front of this vehicle is on the left side (this is a back 3/4 view), maybe i should've made this more clear. Doh!

Al-X - Yes, i've pretty much switched over to 100% digital. Working digitally has a lot of advantages; mostly because it's a time saver. It also allows me to get my idea across more precisely, since i can change anything at any time (unlike traditional mediums, once you ink or marker something, it's pretty much set; very difficult to change anything at that point). I still doodle in my sketch book, but for all other work, it's all digital now. Maybe i should sell my boxes of high-tec-c pens..hahah...

Davi - Painter 6 or 8? It's just a personal perference i think. It's one of those if it's not broken, why fix it things. Painter 6 works fine for me, and it's so fast. 6's menus are also easy to get to; i noticed it usually took 2-3 clicks to get to options in 8. This makes a huge difference when working fast. Since i only use 4 main brushes, i didn't need 95% of 8's features. Again, as long as it works, then it's good. A newer version doesn't mean it'll help you draw better.

Fozzybar - Good eye! Yeah, a lot of perspectives are off here and there in this sketch. I did it too quicky...i should be more careful. =P

Chukw - Hahha, hey Chuck. No, not using Lighting Effects here...this is Painter 6, no filters or effects here. All painted...haha. But i know what you mean....lighting effects is cheesy. I almost added a lense flare in this sketch, to stay true to the original sketch...but i just couldn't make it look good...haha.

Grifter730 - No, i don't use the Cintiq. I use a 12x18 wacom...which allows to me to swing my elbow instead of my wrist (also better for your wrist, since you don't use it much). By swinging your elbow, straight lines are a lot easier to draw. Painter also allows you to freely rotate the canvas. I can only draw straight lines at a 40-45 degree angle, so i'm constantly rotating the canvas. My friend Ryan's DVDs are coming out this monday. You can see how he draws in Painter, using the canvas rotation.

Plouffe - Hahha, that's a great sketch! Anything with chickens is funny. Maybe i'll do a chicken walker next.....stayed tuned...

Sinix - Yup....coming soon =)

And to all that got the DVDs..thank you so much for your support. Look for more DVDs coming soon...from some of the top designers in the industry....it's gonna be cool.

k, back to sketching....

Hey Feng, really cool vehicle, interesting to see the switch to 100% digital.

If you don't mind, a critical note: about your ellipses, they're all out of perspective? Those perspective lines you made on top of your drawings indicate the right direction, yet they're all too vertical? Anyways, I think you already know this, but I thought I might mention it.

Cool colouring btw, gotta love glowy bits :)

Great work Feng (as always!). I picked up your 4 DVDs and they were FANTASTIC (I have feedback and crits on them but will give that later when I have time)!

Now I'm drooling if there are more coming, make sure you keep us posted!

understood, i feel limited by some of the older verisons of painter's paint brushes, i hate not being able to control the resat.

and i hope some day you make a tutorial on digital perspective drawing.

anyways keep up the good work always a pleasure seeing your pieces.

Hey feng i was wondering what your major was at art center?

I read that you majored in industrial design, but I thought that was only affiliated with consumer products.

I'm trying to decide my major I heard a lot of people had entertainment design as their major at art center, but i didnt see that as a major listed in their catalog.

im not feng but i beleive he majored in product design and minored in entertainment design......basically they give you the know how.....how you apply the techniques is up to you.
