This may not be the right forum, but I know you guys are anatomy pros, and I'm stuck and need your help. Please look at the guy leaning forward on the RIGHT. He is leaning forward, and twisting at the waist. His hips/ pelvise don't look right to me? When you lean like this, you're kinda doing a pelivc thrust-so it looks like he has no butt? Also, Is the Demons left rib cage/abs/ intercostals noticeably wrong? I think do to the twist I may be a little off? Please give me input. I didn't use referance. I am trying to make my pieces much more dynamic. . .this time with the guy on the right I am struggling? In the mean time I continue to do more anatomy studies.
Thanks!!

Hey there Steve, thought i would take a break from work and throw in my 2 cents.

1- the demon guy- I think you did a pretty good job on him. he's a little small in the image so its kind of hard to make out his abs, but they look pretty good. I would really try to exaggerate the pose more. In the drawing I did notice how I try to make every part of his body flows up towards his arm. I raised his left shoulder and pushed his right one down; I also raised his left leg and pushed his right one down. Remember that the body works in opposites, so if you do something to one side, try to play up a contrast on the opposing side. One other thing is that I would push the overlaps on the right side of his torso so that we can really feel the action of his body.

2- The babe- I think you actually got the pose right on the guy in front of her to the right. Even if you're not using reference, it really helps to try and act out the pose yourself. It would feel a bit awkward extend your hand to shoot while scrunching up your shoulders. Also, by raising her right shoulder and lowering her left, you set up a nice flow that moves through her legs, up her torso, and finally through her arm which leads our eyes to the demon guy. widening her stance will also make it more dramatic. Too the right is another pose idea which could also work. Again, act it out first so you can get a better sense of what feels natural--Think about the kind of pose you would strike if you were in her situation!

3- the dude- One thing I would really recommend would be to try and draw their feet to understand how their stance supports the pose(you can always crop it after). The pose you have is a little ambiguous so I'm not too sure what you were going for. Another thing to think about when setting up the pose is "what is this guy doing?" In this case it seems like he's reaching over to the girl with his sword on guard. Then I would really make him reeaaching oover. Just like the demon, who was reaching up with his arm so I made him [I]really[I] reaching up. Also notice how pushing his right arm back helps push his left arm forward. And to help with a twist it usually helps to draw out a simple boxy lay-in to establish how the major masses of the body are interacting.

I think that's about all I can say right now. hope my scribbles and jabber help!

Dangerousllama,
Thank you for you help. I really appreicate you taking the time to really help me and look at this image! You give great insight and suggestions. Art can be very frusterating at times and yet when you creat a piece you're happy with/ proud of it can be so fullfilling almost nothing else can compare to that sensce of accomppishment. --Sorry I'm prob ranting here. I need to learn so much more. Just when I've learned something and had that "apifany-sp?" I then realize how much I actually don't know. . .it seems to be an almost endless journy. I need to do many more anatomy studies-human figure drawing. In your wquick sketchs it's apparent you know exactly what your doing-I feel I can achieve the same results but it takes much more time and struggle to get there.

Can you, or anyone else reading this thread tell me, how long it takes to get to your approximate skill level? How many figures do you do a day, etc? Do you work from life models often? CA is such an amazing site, and people like you really help others learn.

I just started visiting the finearts studies forum, and will make this forum my focus for some time to LEARN more. I used to only visit the "It's Finally Finished", and the "Cristique Center" which are great, BUT here you can truly improve ones skill. SOOOO, sorry for the rant-I don't know other artists to talk to about this kinda of stuff, and again thanks for your help.
Best

Thought I'd post an update. I am playing with the compostion, and placement of limbs and charactors. I think I'll make the smaller man to the right of the woman in the back ground running with his sward out pointed at the demon--just haven't had time. Also I played around with the sky-I think I went over board with the clouds-but needed a distraction from the charactors. I need to fix some of the demon anatomy-oh his R-leg and abs a little. Also need to finish charactors anatomy and painting. Just thought an update would be nice considering all the great advice I got in this forum.

Thanks again
