I was just wondering is SketchUp worth downloading for someone who is already fluent in other 3D programs such as Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max etc..... is it really quick and easy to set-up simple things in SketchUp. Can you export things to other 3D programs?
Any opinions? Will give it a look if people think its worth it.

imho, if you are fluent in 3dsmax then i cant understand what you need su for...
.. it's really quick and easy to set-up SOME simple things in SketchUp,
and the obj-exporter are only in the pro-version, there are some plugins with various
quality that also export in .obj.
you can build amazing things in su, specially with all the plugins that are available,
but i would stay away from it if i already had my hands on 3dsmax and the knowledge how to use it fluently, i would never look back.

I guess it depends on what you are trying to do, but personally I think you should at least try it out. Its super easy to use and quick which is good for iterating. Also take note that CA dedicated a thread to the app!
Additionally, just because you have max doesn't mean you shouldn't use SU. I have access to other 3d apps and know how to use them but stopped 4 years ago when I found SU.
If you don't have the pro-version and want to get models exported to another app, try exporting as a .kmz the google earth format which is a zipped up collada file.

You don't risk wasting time with this program beacause you can learn Sketchup in one afternoon. Simplicity is it's main plus.
The free version doesn't have export function but somebody made plugin that exports to obj file.

I would most definately download it. As others have said, it is real simple to learn and use and you can get plug-ins to export as obj if you want. I personally use it for blocking in shapes to aid with perspective to paint over - wonderful.
