Since the DCI season is beginning to take wind I figured I would make a thread for it.

Just post about your favorite Drum Corps, your favorite show, what you liked about this and that corps, this and that show, blah blah blah.

In case no body has heard of DCI let me give you a brief summery:

Drum Corps International ("DCI" or "Drum Corps" for short) is a music competition staged for aspiring musicians. The competition is only for Bugle Players (meaning Trumpets, Euphoniums, Mellophones (French Horns), Contrabass Bugle, "Contrabass" for short (Tubas) with any other valved brass) and Drummers (Snare, Tenor, Bass, and the Front Ensemble (plays all of the other percussion instruments)). The whole point of DCI is to deliver a musically challenging piece while, literally, performing visual effects. Of course there is an Artillery (color guard) to help bring out the show (no show would be complete without them).

If you want to check them out more look here: http://www.dci.org/

The shows these young adults put on are mind blowing. The intricacy, the seemingly impossible visual affects, the music being able to be played with so much energy no matter the volume. If you haven't watch any one of their performances all I have to say is stop reading this thread, youtube "drum corps" and pick one of them. The majority of the shows are incredible so it will be hard to find one that is just "decent". But there are some that are just unbelievable. If you want some of my personal bias feel free to ask for a piece but I'd like for y'all to experience some of it for yourself. :P

I'm really pumped for this year's competition! I have some friends who are out there right now working their tails off. I hope they do really well! I've heard good things from them so far. :)

Does anybody plan on going to DCI? There schedule is full of shows from today all the way to August 8th.

Awesome, I marched DCA (Drum Corps Associates) last year on baritone with Alliance Drum and Bugle Corps in Atlanta Georgia. :D I was going to march Spirit this year, but I wanted to focus on art more.

We got to perform at a couple of DCI shows last year and it was intense! We won DCA Class A World Championships. There's nothing quite like marching and playing your brains out in front of a huge crowd of 10000+ and coming away with a championship.

Anyway, my favorite shows:
