Heya guys, my name is Jayson, I just started to get back into illustration after seeing the works of Chris Gossett "Redstar" and Clayton Crain work "Ghost Rider_Road to damnation" series. And from there have discovered a giant list of other amazing artists that inspire me to see where this adventure will lead
Hope you enjoy and stop bye and say hi :)
This was my first post on CA for Creature of the week

for the following week, I took the crits on board that I was given to push my next concept along further. For this one a sound bite was supplied and we had to come up with the creature...was awesome fun

the second image is definitely my favorite. really strong perspective. The alice in wonderland image also stands out for me. The caterpillar is great, but alice looks like she could do with a bit more work.

Self Portrait :)
thought I would take a break from drawing this weekend, so I decided to have a go at zbrush, and I must say it is quite quick to pick up.....I only have been using basic the brushes and trying to learn about rendering and composites. really cool about how it uses alpha channels so custom brush work is great. this week back onto the newborn comp.

This was an older version of my newborn entry, the main guy was removed after a few crtis people were saying that he wasn't really necessary and was abit to obvious, it was a hard thing do do turfing him away, especially the time it took me to make him llok decent, but oh well.

Here is a concept for a challenge over at 3dtotal that sounded awesome, the topic is movie mashup so I'm planning to do HEAT & GHOST IN THE SHELL, this was concept based on one of the scenes in the movie, but I don't think it works that we as a still image, so planning on changing the angle to make it more dynamic..fingers crossed

Thumbs for CHOW 201 Andromeda entry. I like the pose of Andromeda on the bottom and the over powering presence of the sea monster on the top, so I might mash those together to see how well they fit. Forgive my bung anatomy on the top version of Andromeda :P

June 15th, 2010, 10:06 AM
Good too see you knocking out those studies and nice going on the chow so far! You could tweak her upper half a bit further back to help sell the idea she is trying to get as far back as possible. Remember to think about your character and how they are reacting to the moment. She's trying to get as far away as the chain will let her and you find in moments of feat you pull your head / shoulders back (maybe an instinct to protect the brain and heart / lungs?)
keep up the good work1

Yay Pg2 thanks KIDULT :) here is some sketches working on pushing the pose a bit more..think I have to change her hips some more
kidult
June 17th, 2010, 04:44 AM
The far right one looks to be heading in the right direction! Her hips seem fine to me, maybe check her chest out its pushing a bit far up, i like the neck / head of the middle one.

Here are some of my final designs for our concept art project at school.
I wanted to stay away from the classic Armour and weapons so I was toying with the idea of organic equipment. It was more fitting for the storyline and made the character seem a lot cooler. I still plan on doing a finished render but it might be a while now as we have moved onto modeling..was a wicked project
I used references for the pose sheet as I was running out of time.

Some more updates on some concepts, I really like both of these, the top one is my fav but the silhouette isn't that strong so might do another round of tweaks to try and iron out the kinks. At the moment it looks like it sits into the Rhino but it is supposed to be around it, so will have to look into that as well, but finally feeling like it is getting some where

Posts 42 and 43 are the best what you've got right now. Really nice rendering. However a lot of anatomy practice needed (damn, if I'd had dollar for every time I've said or heard that phrase). Keep drawing, do some reference paintings, and you'll be ok. And some stars for you. Wish you luck.

Well with a lot more playing around in maya building the different types of weapons Ive gone back to one of the older designs. Here are some updated renders, the model with remain previs at the mo since I'm gonna have a go of over painting, and there is only 4 more days left. I'm trying to have 3 really good painted up shots...but we will see what happens :0
Silwynar : Thanks, yeah I really want to spend a few days a week studying animal anatomy, will have to squeeze that into my to do list after this comp :)
Seraph Fawkes : Awesome....oh oh oh Ive just been collecting some reference images to do reference paintings of and I cant wait to start

That rhino model looks quite accurate. Want to see this work finished. I've tried to love 3d-modelling, but it was a tough love. And I forgot to say, that I also like crab-oyster-squid thing attacking ship.

I went to the White Clouds World two day workshop earlier this year on concept design which was run by Paul Tobin and Warren Mahy from WETA, amazing weekend to say the least. We were given a brief of re-designing either characters, creatures, environments for JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, we could choose what time frame it was to be set in. So i went for Post Apoc and re-deisgning the harpies.
Got some great tips on rendering out images from the guys. Bottom right was a quick demo done by Paul Tobin

We finished off our mudbox module last week, and here was the sculpt. We had to do a caricature of someone. Was concepted during the sculpting stage. I still have a few things I want to fix on it but overall I was pretty pleased.
We went through basemesh - retopology - transfer - sculpt details - texture - export maps. Then was brought back into Maya, for lighting, shaders and rendering.
