ew elcoro is nasty.
i have a box of oils, some cheap canvas and a bunch of brushes. i have no idea what they do, how do i start oil painting without waisting this stuff? (its intimidating me as i type .. ehkk!)

oi!
this one was pure fun, i hope to paint more of theses little still lives and give them out to friends. this one is for a good friend of mine, another artist and sculptor. he made a fantastic small sketch book (filled with his sketches) just for my wife and i. it was an incredible gift and i only hope to let him know how much i liked it with this gift for him.
killingpeople, i started this one with raw umber and pthalo blue. just knocked in the lights and darks, or rather the darks first and then when i thought i could recognize the skull out of my fumblings with the brush i started to add white. then when it started to take on volume i added venetian red, yellow ochre, naples yellow, a warmer blue, and probably something else but you get the point that i started adding color as i went. just arm yourself with some knowledge of warms and cools , edges, and a desire to paint and you will be more than halfway there.
to all else thanks for checking in. i did draw the same skull a while ago. i do not think it would fit in the spectrum book but neat idea. this piece is painted on gesso board, you can buy it from your art store. just gesso on masonite but the company does a fantastic job of doing it for you. the piece is something like 4 by 6 inches.
i have not been posting as either i can not show what i am working on or i am too embarrassed to show what i am working on.

hey jon, just so you know, you're the reason i use pthalo blue and yellow ochre these days. i had removed yellow ochre from my pallette long ago, but looking at your stuff madem re-adopt it, and i use that shit all the time now. too embarrassed? please dude. you are acheving new heights, and you should post more of your still lifes. i wanna see!-c36

Here's the strange thing. When i was younger and had more free time I used to practice falconry. Anyhow, I had a Cooper hawk skull. Well just two days ago, no reason at all, I thought about this skull and how amazing it was. Then I hit this thread and I see this bird skull.
Ya know this sounded more interesting in my head. oh well.
Lovely study jon.
Peace
