Here are some quick sketches I did with a ballpoint pen on the train. I used some reference material from portrait-artist.org to do these. I am really new to art so any criticism would be GREATLY appreciated. I am posting stuff like this so I don't form bad habits. Thanks guys!

p.s. - One problem I was having was that I have no idea which direction to make the strokes on the eye or the face for that matter. I have no idea really how to shade something with crosshatching so any help on that specific topic would be awesome. Thanks.

That eye on the far left (near the bottom) is really good. Great to see you improving! Keep going!

Thanks guys. Yeah coriat...definitely go to portrait-artist.org. Jester actually pointed me to that site :D . Thanks for the encouragment Jester. The eye on the bottom left was the last one that I did coincidentally hehe. I am gonna try some more poses etc. I am learning a lot by using the reference material from books etc... It helps to look at someone's art who has made the right strokes already. I know it may be cheesy but drawing another drawing helps me visualize and learn the theory behind how they put the lines on the paper. I'm not sure if that's considered cheezy in the art world but it helps me hehe...I look at loomis' heads for reference all the time hehe. Thanks guys.

p.s. - I probably wouldn't recommend tracing. You always want to practice using what your eye sees and translating that into lines on the paper. Tracing doesn't accomplish that. That's for sure.
