Hello everyone, I'm a junior and I'm debating whether or not to go to VCU or SVA. I want to major in animation, VCU is good because it's cheap and it has a good program, but their animation department is not as prestigious as SVA. So, can anyone give me some advice whether to go to VCU or SVA.

And one more thing, my GPA is a 3.5, but my SAT scores are 1390. Ever since that 1390 score, my scores have been dropping ever since. I took my June 6th SAT, but I'm not sure if I did better than my lowest one. So I have decided that if my 4th SAT is the lowest one, then I will just have to move on and focus my summer on art. So am I able to get into VCU or SVA with an SAT score of 1390?

While I don't know about SVA and VCU specifically, art schools tend to put very little weight on SAT scores.

Not to mention that 1390 is not a bad score by any measure.

Depends heavily on your portfolio. Grade wise, 3.5gpa and a 1390 on the SAT is more than adequate (at least for VCU). SVA is probably going to care even less about scores and more about the portfolio.

And when I mean 1390, I mean 1390 out of 2400.

Maybe you should give the ACTs a try? It's a completely different type of testing that can replace the SATs on most college apps. It might be more suited to you.
And check out collegeboard.com if you haven't already, they give you general statistics about the gpa and test scores of incoming freshman.

Oooooh. Slight difference. ;) Even still, if for whatever reason VCU doesn't like your SAT scores (again, I don't think SVA will really bother to look at them; their optional at a lot of art schools) there's always the community college option. Spend a year or two at a local community college, get your liberal arts out of the way, and work hard enough to get good grades and you'll have a pretty easy shot at getting into your school of choice afterward. That's the path I took.

Haha, me too :D

We have so much in common :3

Anyways, now that we got the SAT question over with, which animation department is better? VCU or SVA?
