Book cover for upcoming rpg called Oathbound: Domain of Wildwood and some interiors for Doomstriders. These are done for Bastion Press.
It was my first few attempts at doing a fight scene. There are some issues that still stand out to me. I’m having trouble with colour.
The composition is not tight enough, it still reads like separate elements.
The posture of the wolves still looks a little awkward.

hey shawn, i like the first one. but you are right that the elements do seem seperated instead of integrated. the wolf on the left seems to be jumping out more that the girl, the posture of all 3 figures is a bit confusing, are they standing on the ground, or are they all off the ground? as for your b&w images, i like the second one the best because of the interaction. all in all, it's still mindblowing. :chug:

i love the B&W pics, very cool! (i dig that hammer!)
i think the color problem i see in the first one is that the wolves are blending in with the background colors...maybe if you had a way to seperate them a bit more. and i think if you pop out the detail on the warrior fighting them, it would stand out as the focus more (im assuming that it IS the focuz of the painting) maybe detail the face a bit more and put some definition on his armor.
very good stuff man, keep it up!

yeah that wolf fallin down looks wierd cuz his feet are still planted on the ground but his torso has a big twist to it.. ..unless she's stepping on his feet?? lol
for the composition id move the flying warrior to the other side, then move the main battlers more to the left, then you'll have a solid triangular composition.. (im big on triangulars heh)

I think the feet of the falling wolf is a bit of a problem, As they obviously got pretty big feet, it looks very strange when you can't see the falling wolf's.
I'd also plant one foot of the other wolf on the ground, making him look more like he knows where he's going :).
If you fix that "foot-thingie" it's a killer.
The second is really good. Cool as hell, and impressive smoke.
Third : I'd like to see some more definition and highlight on the "dragon's" body
Fourth: looking good. Is the giant friend or foe? If they are going to fight right after this, then you might open his eyes a bit (giant's)
Just some thoughts, Great work.

these are some nice pieces man. The second and last ones are my favorite.
On the first one, I think you could play with some filters, and paper textures in the environment to help tie it all in.(maybe)
The third one is a bit hard to read, because the values are so close to one another in the characters.

Pretty cool. I like the wolf on the left alot. The shape of his body is more interesting than the one falling. I think your problem is with value and not color. The use of balck is flattening things out, imo. The top of the tree trunks for instance is far away, I wouldn't make them so dark.
As for the action poses, maybe you could make inprovments based on the advice they give in the ol' "drawing comics the marvel way". I'm thinking of the page where he says to put your action figures in the most extream pose posable. Either all the way back before throwing the punch or all the way into it.

Some has mistaken the half-elf warrior to be a girl, actually he is a hero.
stormeffex, I believe that the werewolf seems to be in front, I wanted him to be looming slightly over the warrior, it could be a bit confusing.
-The Swift-, thanks.
Skank, thanks, I will take note of that.
Thanks gallon, if I had more time I would probably add in more details to the dragon and improve on the lighting.
Main Loop, that could have worked out better I think, the composition bothers me the most. Most of my time was actually spent on experimenting rather than execution and I was having difficulties deciding where to head.
sea minus, I will try to work on it and thanks for the suggestion on the poses.
strych9ine, glad you like the b&w, thanks.
I.was.ink, I will keep those in mind, thanks!
Thanks killing.people :D
I should probably also post the wip,
