DAMMIT!
Two of my current favourite bands are playing gigs here in the new year and I've missed out on both!
I don't know why I'm sharing this with you but I've gotta let it out somewhere...
Of course I didn't have the money to buy the tickets for either Radiohead or The Mars Volta until the precise second after they sold out but as soon as they sold out...BAM.
anyhow...if anyone else here in Australia is going to either gig then I hope you enjoy...enjoy them double for me.
Over and out.

Sorry Expat. Not a big Radiohead fan, but I know how you feel.
I have had to work everytime Tool has come to Canberra (one of the few bands that will). They just wouldn't give me time off. Bastards.
Well aparently A Perfect Circle are coming down to Aus again, so I will have a look into that.
Anyway, I hope that you get to see them next time.

Hmmm. I can sympothise with you, last time Metallica came to Australia I missed it. What's really stupid is I had a ticket but didn't go and regreted it ever since:(. But now I got a ticket to go see them on the 21st of January :D and there is no way I'm going to miss that concert.

Yeah Mr. Teatime...I can tell you like Radiohead by your avatar...
The Mars Volta is one of the two bands (or three if you're kinda technical) that are made up of former members of At The Drive In. I'm guessing that if you're into punk as you seem to be you've probably heard of At The Drive In...or at least you should've! Maybe you've heard of Sparta? They're another splinter of At The Drive In.
Anyway The Mars Volta is difficult to describe...I think Rolling Stone categorised them as 'Psych-Rock' whatever the hell that is.
Think of a mix between Led Zep style vocals, 'cut and paste' lyrics, punk (as in the 70s style), dub, and salsa music...guitar riffs that Santana would be proud of and you're starting to get close...
Aven- A friend of mine somehow gets backstage passes to all sorts of things and got to meet Maynard during the first Perfect Circle tour in Australia...apparently he committed a faux pas by asking Maynard to sign a Tool album cover...
At the same time he made friends with the drummer (Billy Howardel?) because he was the only person who had ever asked him to sign his solo album or EP or something...
but anyway...I guess I'll just have to buy a ticket to the BDO if I'm gonna see the Volta
Thanks for your replies...

just had to but in and say those mars volta guys are a good bunch. i grew up with cedric the lead singer and omar the guitarist back in el paso. we used to party together a lot. i did the first at the drive in seven inch, that silly gasmask logo, and some various other things over the years. its great to hear they are touring with radiohead these days...nice to hear old friends are doing so well. i was actually at the very first at the drive in show, performed for a function at an all girls catholic school! haha-c36

wow el coro!
from the sounds of it there were a lot of creative juices flowing around el paso back in the day (whichever day that might've been)...i wonder if you knew the guy that de-loused in the comatorium is supposed to be about.
but I think you misunderstood me because they're not touring with Radiohead...they are two different concerts...of course they did support the Red Hot Chili Peppers at some point...you can hear the Omar Rodriguez influence in John Frusciante's guitar in that song 'Fortune Faded'...or vice versa...
As for where I'm from, form_n_focus, I'm from the 'Deep West' of Sydney as I call it...out between Mt Druitt and Penrith.
While I'd love to see Mars Volta and there's a great lineup at the BDO, I don't know if I can cope with the BDO crowd anymore...especially at this ripe old age of 21...
man...i rant...but i'm done now

oh, i'm a huge fan of the films...
i've just started reading the books for the first time...apart from the false start when i started reading them a while back and gave up by the second chapter...
no the part about the Shire was in regard to the people of Sutherland Shire calling their area 'The Shire'
but yeah, I am a fan...unlike the people on theforce.net who were claiming that Peter Jackson ruined Lord of the Rings and only did it for the money...reminds me of another bearded director of a different famous trilogy...
