I can just look at these and know you had a freaking blast making them. So energetic and colorful. I think my favorite you listed here is the litch mummy coming out the sand...that is a freaking awesome illustration imo. Checking your site out now.

Fantastic stuff, Ralph. A genuine old school flavour with a big spoonful of bang-up-to-date punch and colour. What a delicious mix!

Thanks for the heads up on your blog too - the large image sizes you have posted there really show how much detail and effort goes into your work. Amazing.

Outstanding stuff Ralph. Really great to see such virtuosity. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this thread, with the hope of more dynamic art to come.

Hi,

Thanks very much for all the comments - much appreciated.

Wheezy; Yeah, I did have fun on these pieces, and the Mummy is one of my favourites too. Oh, and yes that is me on the NM podcast.

For those of you unfamiliar - the Ninja Mountain podcast is a weekly hour long discussion about varying aspects of illustration by a good mix of artists. It can be found here:
http://ninjamountain.blogspot.com/

Eric Lofgren; Thanks very much for saying so, and thanks also for the stars :D

grue; Thanks, glad you feel I deserve them :)

Matt Dixon; I certainly try to bring in some contemporary approaches, but I do also like adopting a level of stylisation, plus painting in acrylics always gives a particular feel.

Glad you found the blog interesting. The ability to host more images without overloading my website is great, and as you note I can show them large too. Thanks very much.

Nickillus; Thanks for saying so.

darknight; Thank you.

Omerta; Thanks. The covers might take a week or two, card art about 2-3 days.

Me,Myself & Me again; Glad you think so. I especially enjoy the Warhammer background, and do have some pieces in the pipeline ;)

Thanks again,

Ralph

Love the detail you put into your work! I think the Monk's favorite out of all of these... but they're all pretty strong.

I also love listening to you guys talk shop on the NMS podcasts.

Some good pieces there Ralph - I do like the knights painting with the bodies on the floor - works really well, very graphic. Bravo!

Incredible detailed works. The first one you posted is really strong. Some of them are a little bit confusing for the high level of detail everywhere but it don´t matter, they´re very good.
Fantastic skills!!

Hi,

Thanks to everyone for the comments, they are all much appreciated.

boybalasa; Thanks you - nice to hear that :)

alti; Pleased to hear that the larger size images on the blog are of interest. I will make sure I post more stuff there of a similar size in future.

Brashen; Oddly enough I have never personally met someone with my same first name! I think it is a lot more unusual here in the UK.

I do adopt a slightly different style for the WoW work. Similarly I love working on covers, they feel like a real showcase opportunity :)

waronmars; lol ;)

ADStudio; I do enjoy putting in lots of detail, but I am trying to temper that more by emphasising the focus of the images, and trying to make my work 'pop' more.

Glad you enjoy the podcast :)

Chuck,mate; Thanks very much :)

Phil Moss; Thanks for your comment. Glad you like the Taldor piece :)

Bill; Thanks very much. I tend to work at about 150-200% of the printed image size (though a lot bigger ratio for card art).

Ricardo Robles; Thanks. I am trying to work to improve the clarity, but I also like to reward repeat viewing, enabling the viewer to extract something more each time :)

Dahami; Thanks :D

Thanks again,

Ralph
