This is the place to post your ideas on how to make teen challenge better.
If theres anything you don't like, just let us know here.
Suggestions or ideas, here's the place.
Just be nice though :P
June 1st, 2009, 07:28 AM
How about making a banner like the rest of the weeklies?
June 2nd, 2009, 01:14 AM
yeah a banner would be a sick thing to design, tho teen challenge would be hard to make into one imo,
and i am new too all this and was heaps edgey on making an account because i was unsure that i would be able to participate in the comp seeing i dont actually own any drawing programs, sure i downloaded the PS cs3 and 4 trials but are ppl allowed to enter with just a pencil drawing?> or does it have to be done on a program such as PS or painter? coz i saw some ppl entered watercolours and the such,
in other words someone needs to write an intro to the section stating wat mediums, styles and how complete the image has too be for a final work, coz i am sure theres probably like 100 or more kids wanting too enter but to unsure of wat is acceptable,
next topic i am in for sure, but its gonna be pencil
June 4th, 2009, 07:05 PM
Was thinking the same thing K, would give the teen challenge a much more professional approach.
And also, good to have ya back, looking forward to your work
June 19th, 2009, 06:08 AM
Why doesn't the next topic be for the banner?
It's not hard to do, no admins needed or anything..
June 20th, 2009, 09:53 PM
When you say 'banner', you mean like this one for CHOW right?- http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii293/chowarchive/CHOW-LINES/CHOW-LINES-MEDUSA.jpg
Well I think that's a great idea!
June 25th, 2009, 04:34 AM
i think they meant that version of banners and adding a badge ie :medusachow: so that ppl actually get something out of this comp, something tangabley visible so ppl know that they are actually good
July 2nd, 2009, 02:33 PM
And also a banner like the chow one showing all the rules etc and the winners. For some reason the idea of having a thuumbnail of your piece for everyone to see makes people work much harder :P
And yeah Lets see if the next topic can be a banner
July 2nd, 2009, 08:30 PM
I've been doing some thinking about the banner idea, and frankly, I'm not seeing it happen. There is no other weekly other then CHOW that has the banner, and its for a reson.
The CHOW is for characters, and characters only, a face could be used as thumb for the simple reson its identifable, the thumb there could make it easy to distinquish wich round it was, and who made it. Since the Teen Challenge has a lot of different subjects and genres, would be tough for some weeks to make a good thumb.
And when it was a rule to make a thumb, no-one made one.
However, one like COW or IDW seems more feasable for this challenge. 1 'big' picture. A mascot sort of speak. I've already got an idea for the topic. However, i was thinking of Making topic for the mascot in round 74. And the next one at 100 (26 challenges = 1 year).
What do you guys think of that?
July 3rd, 2009, 12:48 PM
i think the banner should be something about youth, maybe it should be a children or a sports ball, something like that, dont you think?
September 14th, 2009, 07:44 AM
My thought for a theme for the banner, could be "Prodigy"... maybe post it for a future challenge...
as for thumbnail it's a good and awesome plan!
but yeah... the only thing that came to mind was a zit... so irrunno... maybe start a whole single topic for specifically the 'symbol for teen challenge'
(sports ball IMHO is a bad idea, a bit too focused on something other than art (perhaps a crayon :P)...
October 2nd, 2009, 08:36 AM
hey how do i join, im new to this whole ca thing
November 28th, 2009, 11:37 PM
Wrong thread. Fail, Katie, Fail.
November 29th, 2009, 07:30 PM
hey how do i join, im new to this whole ca thing
Just post your artwork (made specificly for that round) in the topic thread and i'll include you in the poll.
March 21st, 2010, 04:13 PM
Any more ideas for specific type of rounds?
Tried the Design Briefs but they didn't seem very popular, maybe the topic choice was too restricted
April 4th, 2010, 02:29 PM
whenn we as artists are upsset or pissed of alot of us paint with realllly loud music on and we dont give a crap about anything else thats going on. You end up cutting the bullshit and just going for it.
so yeah thats my suggestion
April 4th, 2010, 03:51 PM
I think some of these themes would work:
PESKY PEST PROBLEM: a pest that just wont go away
GENETIC JUMBLE: take two or more creatures and combine them! Oh the combinations!
April 5th, 2010, 01:41 AM
haha hunchback - anger!
I think we should have a badge like the CHOWs, i know its been said i'm pretty sure but like theres no real "prize" and if there was i'm sure more people would join thinking like, ooh i want one of those purty things :3
As for topics...
Ninja Pirate Cat!
But seriously, I've got a real idea! MAN BEAR PIG!
April 6th, 2010, 08:29 AM
Ryan I am working on the badge things :)
And Hunchback, anger sounds awesome. Next teen challenge for sure :D!
May 1st, 2010, 09:51 AM
I was wondering if Teen Challenge could have a spot on the main page like all the other weeklies? I know a lot of people have no idea Teen Challenge exists, and just stumble upon it randomly while searching through the forum.
May 1st, 2010, 09:05 PM
lol got another one
instead of mantracker
August 5th, 2010, 07:04 PM
Eh, question, When the Badge is chosen, do the earlier winners get one or would it take too much time to go back in the archives and give the winners one? I have no idea how much work it is btw.
August 6th, 2010, 02:04 AM
Hey Ludic, it take some time to award them and because I only have mod powers and not admin it has to go through a couple of people so I've awarded everyone who's won from the time I've started with TC which is from around 80-something. The badges should show up soon :)
August 6th, 2010, 06:26 AM
Okay, cool. Thanks.
August 10th, 2010, 06:46 AM
Hello, just a quick question: is this challenge is open for "teens" (<20) only? Am I too old with my 21 years? :D Thanks!
August 10th, 2010, 11:29 AM
It's supposedly for <20, yeah, but try asking lilnebo about it. She's the bossy one. :]
June 2nd, 2011, 02:39 AM
hello can i really know what is the age limit here.THANKS=)
June 2nd, 2011, 03:48 AM
I think we should make the challenge perhaps up to 23 years or so, that way many more people could join, its just, im not sure whether that would completely defeat the purpose of this challenge. Acctually it probs would. nvm :)
July 4th, 2011, 05:04 AM
well this looks cool, anyone mind giving me the down low on what the TC is, along with rules and such?
Or maybe an info sticky? Either way, many thanks!
EDIT: oop nevermind, just saw the banner in one of the topic threads... awesome banner btw.
December 12th, 2011, 11:34 AM
surprised low amount of kids u partcipate
only reason i dont is i never like what i produce
January 13th, 2013, 08:40 AM
problem is kids are al in DA makin pony art and sonic or anime art and u need to update the topic :CC pleease devine comedy is jan 6
January 13th, 2013, 08:46 AM
i think we ned to change the gap to 25 and make it 25 age below plus i dont think any teens will come their to busy in DA having their time
or just having fun i good idea is to have a weeky sketch thing for ametures no contes things no popularty contest that make losers feels shit just weekly stuff
the winners are the guys wh posted more it would be nicee though
January 13th, 2013, 08:50 AM
or how bout make a oc thing where characters interact with people like for example going to a restaurant then another guys replys
diffrent situations every week like klliing, inside a stomach or fighting the president or eating a hoolahoop or riding a sheep or a story thing like or just killing thing revive it
February 8th, 2013, 12:51 PM
Hey I'm new here but whats up with the weekly challenges? I was the only one to finish the last one and its kind of lame : p Reading through the comments here and I'm pretty amazed by the lack of work I'm seeing. I don't think increasing the age gap will make much of a difference and honestly it would probably be for the best at this point. Maybe seeing a couple of artists that can/will do the work can motivate the others to actually go for it? The age gate to me is only in place because it assumes it's creating a level playing field and if that's the case what's the point? No ones walking away from these with any new info. TC to me needs a total revamp and some one to wrangle this together more effectively. From what I see it makes no sense to even do these. No one gives crits, topics are incredibly vague and doesn't really lend itself to showing how someone can use it for self improvement. I'd like to help if i could even if it meant only 2 other people actually finishing these things.
August 14th, 2013, 07:10 PM
hey guys i think we should start the teen challenge again.........i for one am in and more teens have started joining too so.....yea
Dan the Man
August 15th, 2013, 08:06 AM
I would be interested in getting involved too!
September 1st, 2013, 08:32 AM
Hey guys, I know you've all been waiting a long time to see the Teen Challenges back.
I've been asked to step in temporarily so I just want to apologise for the lack of updates and regular challenges.
Things have been pretty up in the air round here these last few months and the Community challenges have taken a big hit. Hopefully things will settle down again and everyone can get back to normal working conditions soon.
I've posted a thread for the latest challenge so go check it out!
Details and deadlines are in-thread and if anyone has any questions, just ask and I'll answer best I can. This is my first time organising a challenge so if I've missed anything or messed something up, let me know and I'll get it sorted.
If anyone has any questions not related to the latest topic, please ask them in here. That way, we can keep the challenge thread for wip's/sketches/topic only.
September 19th, 2013, 10:59 AM
Just a quick comment today. Got lots going on elsewhere.
Going to close the voting for TC #200 tomorrow afternoon at some point. Want to get enough time to anounce the winner, get their topic choice and start the next challenge on Sunday. Lets keep this baby moving forward peoples.
So if you havent voted yet, get on it!
September 28th, 2013, 07:42 AM
I think the teen challenge is a very nice idea, but it could be presented better. Young people are never going to produce really professional-looking art, the incentive (for me) to participate is to improve, to see how people in my situation handle problems in their paintings, and to have fun. Being able to win is nice, but not the most important aspect of this in my opinion. Somehow, the introductions should maybe tell participants to have fun and try to learn things. Sparking a discussion to give constructive critiscism would be awesome. :)
September 29th, 2013, 11:04 AM
Good suggestion, Clockwork. Been thinking about that and will probably start including something in the challenge op's. I also feel like too many restrictions and must do's can stifle creativity and learning and have been trying to soften up on that a little.
Also going to set up a winners gallery like they have in other challenges so all the winning entries get displayed in one easy to find thread. Means there's less pressure on sorting out prizes and the like because at least everyone who wins will get a gallery spot, and the learning should definitely be the most important aspect for sure.
September 29th, 2013, 07:28 PM
Me like the winners gallery.
September 30th, 2013, 01:43 PM
Heh. Good to hear Ossmosse.
October 7th, 2013, 07:27 AM
Just wanted to apologise for the delay in getting the next challenge set up. Life is a bit hectic at the moment and I havent got as much free time as I'd like.
Got an idea good to go, just need to get some stuff sorted out and will post it up in the next day or so.
Thanks for your patience.
October 7th, 2013, 02:24 PM
hello can i really know what is the age limit here.THANKS=)
13-18? Here's an idea, how about posting the next topic half way between the previous topic. Those who don't have time for the previous topic can participate on the new one.
October 7th, 2013, 02:27 PM
Well, you can participate if you're younger than 13 right? :)
October 9th, 2013, 10:16 AM
well it does say teen which is 13-18...
October 9th, 2013, 12:44 PM
I don't think anyone would mind if a participant were younger than 13. Maybe there is an official age restriction to join the forum, so 12 year olds might not be able to join according to the rules, but I doubt that. :P
EDIT: chandra, are you okay? Seems you're quite busy. :)
October 11th, 2013, 10:25 AM
I think the Teen Challenges are 13-19 inclusive - ie, people aged 13 or 19 can enter. I didn't make the rules but I think that makes sense, because allowing people under thirteen or over nineteen would widen the skill level too much. We could end up with pro's competing against twelve year olds and while I'm all for developing a thick skin about your art, that kind of competition might be a bit too demoralising.
EDIT: chandra, are you okay? Seems you're quite busy. :)
I'm okay, thanks, Clockwork. Real life is getting... well, difficult at the moment. But thats neither here nor there really. Just wish I could devote the amount of time these challenges require to run smoothly. Maybe I'll go begging at Dile's door at some point.
Anyway, next challenge is one the way. Going to make it a long one (two weeks) so I may need to implement that suggestion above and post a quicky interim topic halfway through.
Thanks everyone for your enthusiasm and patience. It's you guys who make this thing work.
November 18th, 2013, 09:46 AM
I've been thinking. I know, I know, a dangerous pursuit. But, what does everyone think about having your own stickied general discussion thread in here?
It could be for anything challenge or art related, as well as anything else you want to talk about. What kind of art you like, the movies you're into, games, music, what you did at the weekend etc.
I'd probably need to run it by the other staff but I thought it might be nice to have somewhere a bit separate where you can hang out. I wouldnt take part, just keep an eye on things from the sidelines so discussions don't get too heated etc.
What do you think?
November 18th, 2013, 12:04 PM
I think it could definetely be nice, a bit like what I expected and wanted from google hangouts. Just a `chatroom` where you can post on whenever you feel like it and post about whatever you feel like posting about. Not sure if there are enough people for it to work well, but there is only one way to find out:)
November 18th, 2013, 03:05 PM
There is the Lounge area of the site, just for that purpose. We could make a thread in there :)
November 19th, 2013, 11:19 AM
You're right about there not being many people at the moment, Dennis. Thought a talk thread of your own might encourage more people to join in.
I hear you, BHDH. Just thought it might be nice for you guys to have your own space away from the lounge (you'll get all sorts in there, lol) while being close to the challenges.
Will wait to see if anyone else shows interest. If not, no worries, we'll keep things as they are.
November 19th, 2013, 02:21 PM
I actually don't see the problem at all for as it stands right now, I think we're with 6 or 7 and we had 4 entries, next week I will send one in aswel so keep it at 5. I've seen many other "" of the week with less than 5 entries, and as long as we're giving each other critic's I don't see what's wrong with how it is now. The group is small but I actually like that more because you kinda know the people that give you feedback and vice versa. Maybe it's just me though:D
November 20th, 2013, 03:06 AM
I agree with Dennis, it's going pretty well as of now. Maybe you could make a general thread for us all together (might actually be nice), but one thread for every individual would be overdoing it I think.
November 20th, 2013, 12:44 PM
Oh no, haha, I meant a single thread for all of you to use. Must have worded that badly. If you all like the idea, let me know.
New challenge is up. Go check it out!
November 21st, 2013, 11:19 AM
Yes I like the idea, we can always try and see if it works, or if there are just no posts after a while.
November 22nd, 2013, 12:02 PM
Cool, thanks Dennis. Will wait a while to see if anyone else adds their interest.
I can always start a thread up at some point and like you say, if no one posts, it's not a big deal.
