Concept: Catmera cartoonus

This creature is unsuccessful product of many years lasting research of military genetic laboratories. They tried to creat the most dangerous biological weapon the world have ever seen. Fortunately they chose wrong animals for mutating at the begining of the research. Cat, mouse and carp. These animals were chosen by the most powerful military computer SILLYCON2000. The final research report states that this wrong choice was caused by the burned electronic tube A51x. Nowdays Catmera is kept under oversight of the scientists who trie to find some use for it. Thanks to these events we can now sleep again at piece for some time.

Concept: Dogeleskunk
If there was a Hate Your Creator competition then it's a sure bet that the Dogeleskunk would be pretty high on the list.
Whatever hicup of evolution gave birth to this poor creature we hope will never happen again.
The Dogeleskunk has half the head and all the brain of a dog, the lower half of an elephant's head and the body of a skunk. Please dear reader, don't be quick to laugh on this sad and unfortunate animal.
The brain of the dog has all the usual wiring that makes it capable to understand and proccess even the faintest of smells. Add to that the huge and more than able nose (known as "trunk") with its highly developed sensors. To complete the equation and feel endless pity for the Dogeleskunk we'll let you remember by yourself what makes skunks famous...

Concept : Deerelephantfrog

How the Deerelephantfrog species survived through the ages is a real mystery, since they are the worst animal combination ever, despite their glorious ancestors. There's a heated debate amongst the scientific community, about wether or not the Deerelephantfrog has some lemur genes, which would explain the large size of their eyes. The ridiculous trunk is the strongest part of their otherwise weak body, allowing them to catch extremely dangerous prey, such as ants, larvae, and even fruits! These peculiar creatures are almost impossible to find in the wild, and it has been reported that their mating rituals are of the clumsiest ever seen in the animal kingdom. But if, by the strangest chance, you happen to encounter one of them, keep an eye on your food, because their fearful behavior isn't enough to stop their incredible appetite.

Concept: Buntoagger

This little beast was bred at the Cole and Heins genetic breedhouse. It is designed for households performing three main functions. As you can see, it is a cross between a rabbit, a toad/frog and obviously a tiger. Therefore, it is a thing you can pet and cuddle with; it is a fierce creature with catlike reflexes that can scare off unwanted guests or wild animals; and it is simply a companion in cleaning up the house by snacking on spiders and flies. However, because of such versatility it often needs open-minded masters who don't mind the creature's split personalities and mood swings even about such little things as "to eat the carrot or not to eat the carrot..."

Concept: squicockapig chimera

The squicockapig chimera is a fearsome, monstrous beast from East Asian mythology, that was known to instill terror in any man who looked into its large, shiny squirrel eyes. The chimera was part squirrel, part pig, and part rooster. However, very little is known about this wild creature. According to legend, the gods strictly prohibited any acts of recording information about or depicting the chimera; doing so was associated with mortal danger, as it was believed that the chimera possessed the great powers of turning people into sticky, green goo, and munching them to death with its intimidating, half an inch long teeth.
It is believed that the squicockapig chimera came into being as a result of a god losing a bet to another god over who could create the most pathetic creature in existence. The winning entry was man.

Concept: Mu-Err Beast

The Mu-Err Beast is also called "sluggish slothbat" due to its chimerical appearance. It clings to a tree with long, clawed sloth arms, covers its trunk with slime, and gobbles up all the foliage and then lets go, spreads its large leathery wings and glides to the next tree. The beast has two tactics to avoid predators: It tastes like old tennis shoes, and retracts its wrinkly head into its cerebral snail shell when it runs the risk of being eaten anyway, or gets poked with a stick by little boys.

Concept: Zebocha

Using it's amazing chameleon powers, the zebocha (a mix of zebra, boar, and of course, chameleon) changes it's colour to match it's surroundings. Well, truth to be told, it is only the stripes that do this, but still - and never mind the fact they mostly cover only the backside of this creature. Be it this perfect camouflage or just the fact that no-one wants to attack a 5 feet high pig, the zebocha can usually enjoy it's meal of tall grass in peace.

Appearing to be a bizarre mixture of Quetzalcoatlus, Tyrannosaurus, and Sabertooth Tiger, the Dinomera has inherited the most impressive features of it's brethren...Unfortunately none of the aforementioned features are properly functional. It's heavy canine teeth drag along the ground, unable to be elevated due to the Dinomera's thin neck, and while it features a rather impressive wingspan, the Dinomera is weighed down by it's gigantic hind legs. Only a few have ever known to have existed, and they were not known to be very happy.

togeraffes are used mainly as fancy mounts on showy occasions, they've been engineered to be so awkward that they're endearing. thus the demand for them has skyrocketed and they're currently the most sought after bearded mounts on the market. however, due to their genetic makeup as 25% dog (the exact number of dog breed genes used has never been disclosed), 33% tiger, 40% giraffe, and 2% filler; they're not good for much beyond short rides, even after years of training. the mix of dog/tiger seems to instill a boundless energy to do anything besides what the rider requires and the giraffe portion is used for the attention grabbing neck, which ends up becoming a blinder half the time when riding.

Concept: North-Atlantic FuzzButt.
The North Atlantic Fuzzbutt is the least respected of the North-Atlantic species, for it's chimeric appearance of Octopus, Deer, and Wren attributes. The Fuzzbutt, while gangly and disorganized, has a knack for prey in tight locations, using it's two forward tentacles to drag the victim from wherever it may hide, using the sharp, toothed suckers to grab tight. The NAFB then gathers the prey into it's seemingly unhinged lower jaw, using it's head-tentacles to keep pushing the prey along, acting like a tongue. The fuzzbutt get's it's name from the humans that encounter it; fearful as they are upon first seeing it, they can't help laugh at it's feathered, fuzzed back end as it retreats in humiliation.

Concept: The Rhinoctopussy

Though humans are seldom the victims as certain Japanese pornographers would have us believe, a rare breed of octopus has been known to "jump anything that moves". As a side-effect to this...enthusiasm, its genes have become quite adaptable, allowing the creature's offspring, like that of some terrible monster from myth, to become a number of bizarre half-breeds. In even rarer situations, the offspring of these hideous unions are not sterile like mules, but carry on their father's adaptable genes through a number of generations. The only one currently living in captivity is "Horny" the San Diego Zoo's resident Half-Rhino, Half-Octopussy, more commonly known as the Rhinoctopussy. Since coming to the Zoo in 2005, Horny's likeness has sold over 1500 T-shirts, buttons, mugs, plastic figurines, baseball caps, action figures, posters, novelty penants, and countless PEZ Dispensers.

Concept: Fezzelbottom's Flatulent Gir-octa-guin
Hope I'm not to late- If I am it's all good, just wanted to post this after I worked so hard on it! :)

Here is the back story:

Fezzelbottom's Flatulent Gir-octa-guin was a rather unfortunate product of the unmonitored "Genetic Hobbyist" era that followed the forth world war where anyone with $500 and a penchant for do-it-your-self genetic engineering could buy everything they needed to build a backyard genetics lab from post war arms dealers.
Their creator was a mild mannered accountant named Bob Fezzelbottom who was trying to create the perfect pet for his spoiled little daughter by combining her three favorite animals: Giraffes, octopuses and penguins.
Once the experiments were complete and the proud dad presented his daughter with a box full of tiny fuzzy ger-octa-guins it became apparent that something in their internal workings had gone terribly wrong! The massive ruminant digestive system of the giraffe part was much to large for the other parts that made up the tiny creatures, and the subsequent rapid build up of digestive gases proved to have a rather explosive effect on their digestion. Soon after their first meal the newly hatched ger-ota-guins were blasting all over the house like so many punctured balloons. The rude noises and smells offended the spoiled little princess who demanded her father get ride of the obnoxious (not to mention noxious)little creatures immediately! The cowardly father did what all cowardly parents do with toys that don't quite work out right: threw them in the dumpster and hoped for the problem to go away.
Unfortunately for the embarrassed father the ger-octa-guins did not go away, instead they developed a taste for garbage at the city dump where they ended up- learned to control their flatulent explosions to fly short distances and begin to adapt to their new urban habitat so much so that eventually they begin to reproduce and have since become somewhat of a nuisance in cities across the world.

All righty. The poll is finally up. Apologies for the delay. My internet connection was acting weird all day yesterday and I couldn't figure out why. This morning it asked me to update my browser and all of a sudden problem solved! Silly Microsoft. (No lectures from Apple users, please. :P )

It was brought to my attention privately that this round was not taken as seriously as other rounds. On the whole, compared to the other rounds we've done I would have to agree. I'm not sure if the whole 'comical' idea turned out to be too much of a curveball for people or what, but I've gotten the message.

The ironic flip side of this fact is that we have more participants and more new participants than ever it seems. I'm happy to see that, definitely. However, everyone really needs to start taking COW seriously if we want to grow as artists. It's a weekly activity and your entry should take you a significant amount of time to do.

As a part of taking it seriously, I am making some cuts this week. All of them were cut from the poll due to quality or time invested in your entry. I realize some people who got cut were making some of their first posts to ConceptArt.org. Please don't take the fact that you did not make it to the poll as a personal slam or discouragement. Believe me, three and a half years ago when I started participating in COW as an entrant, I was often disappointed with the way my first entries were received. Hard work and regular participation in the CA weekly activities is the way to get better. Stick with it. Study animal anatomy. Work from reference. Work everyday. You'll hear the same advice all over ConceptArt.org because it really is the only way to progress your art.

The following entrants did not make it to the poll for the reasons above. I could have made more cuts, but I had to draw the line somewhere....

SephyCloneNo15, Mxlplxn, ecochran, volscalkur, s.a.r., acb, Blonde Bomber, DoomSquid.

All righty. I'm setting up the new round. As promised we will be returning to the realms of darkness. It seems to draw the best of the best out of the woodwork and that (rightly) makes everyone work harder... See you in a few minutes with that...

emerging got my vote! The way the creature is snarling at the carrot like it's pure evil is too funny! Awesome! :teeth:

Dado Almeida Loved your flu creature! The expression is hilarious!

grue The concept of your creature was very comical, the knotted trunk was great and I thought the color choices worked well with your idea.

Blobs :tihi: Pure genius! Such an impractical and ridiculous creature and yet rendered out so well it has me believing that it could exist! I bow before your skills (and to dodge the Baguette sized bombs!) :)

Ghoulio very funny!

Wazbot I love the idea of a fish that can stalk around out of the water and sting you!

Michael Morisse the tiny chicken hindquarters are great!

Wish I could comment on more, some very funny and well done stuff in my opinion no matter how serious people took the round!

I must admit I'm pretty bummed about getting cut from the poll, but I understand and respect the decision :yayca: after all these weekly challenges are a great learning experience, and I'm relatively new to painting digitally and I know I really need to improve.

On that note I would like some feedback on what I could do to improve, I worked pretty hard on this week's entry and thought I had a fairly good piece?

since this is my first cow, i'm going to take a shot at commenting on as many as possible.

Clochette: this is a great little critter, i really enjoy the style it's done in, how you managed to retain both a stylistic representation of the creature and enough realism to show form, especially in the trunk/nose. (this one got my vote)

Gumish: for some reason your image doesn't show up for me

grue: the furry texture in the tail is really good, some work on the feet and/or right eye socket would help; particularly the eye is meant to be "googly" i know, but right eye just seems to lack something to actually make it appear attached to the face

Emerging: the facial expression is splendid

benu: i like the face and how the snailshell is worn as a 'hat' when not needing to protect the face. where the snail and sloth bodies meet could use a little more transition, or possibly move the right arm so it didn't block that area

Melis: the teeth could use a perspective go over, from the way the head/face is shown the teeth would be sticking out markedly towards the creature's left.

Wazbot: i really enjoy the small textural details in this, the fur on it's tail, the scales, the speckles on it's armlegs.

sojujoe: there's a little confusion on the largest creature's right arm/leg, particularly the front elbow, there's a slightly too sharp line that makes it look like that elbow could go to either leg

sketchius: the small details, and lighting on the shell/wings are spiffy

NakedZergling: i like the interplay between linework and color in this

Izer: the pig's face is great

Arthur 'Two Sheds': this thing's hysterical, i could picture people paying to watch them fight, maybe some gambling.

Arteater: the minimal color range works really well

vorp: the face and the tail are splendid, the critter's left arm gets a little lost valuewise though

Hey guys & girls...

So this was my first COW and for a lot of other participants too I guess.
Iīm a COW lurker for almost 2 years and never had the guts to do one, maybe itīs because of the topic that a lot newcomers made the step to do it...
But Iīm sure Iīll be doing more of these...

emerging: I like yours gause itīs a well done combinaton and has a more finished feel to it...
blobs: Man that is funny, really, maybe it could have been a bit more finished but the the anatomy is very good and I like that way of pianting very much soooo, you got my vote!!
benu: you probably have the most clean pic very well done your my second the only reason not to vote yours was that it isnīt that funny, but still nice work, way better than mine haha...
tschari: the first time a saw your WIP I went Wowwww...those tigerstripes kick ass as is the whole rendering and form of your creature to bad you didnīt have time to colour it...
michael morisse: Cool design and well done nice colours too, my only crit is the comical aspect of it, again, not that funny...
arteater: also a very cool design in my opinion, itīs just the lack of colour that makes it less interesting, but I like it...

I find it very difficult to give my C&C to the others cause I think there all, including mine, on another skill level, but we just have to keep practicing AND participating, it still goes about learning and getting better and than winning a COW will be next Iīm sure haha...

So now we are going to the dark realms again...well count me in...

Gumish Well, that thing definitely has the three heads in it. :D Pretty good outcome overall, though the brush strokes are quite messy what it comes to colouring.

Grue Nice colouring in the creature and a lovely soft atmosphere in the whole pic.

Clochette I love how you do your colours, they blend very good. I especially like how you added orange on the hind legs. Maybe a little simple compared to what COW entries usually are, but definitely not in a bad way.

Emerging Haha, nice one! Great work on colouring and overall rendering. The frog legs look really good, on the front legs maybe you could've defined more to what animal they are supposed to belong? Right now they don't look like either a tiger's or a rabbit's toes. The expression is hilarious.

s.a.r. I see you spent time painting the head, the middle part where it's all pig looks a little too sketchy in comparison, not as full. Also he's seems not to be in full balance, all of his four legs are pointed forwards which make it look like he's gonna fall backwards in a sitting positiong. Anyway, a good start, you'll definitely go up from here.

Blobs ...good rendering, 's all I'm going to say. :D

Benu Cool concept, especially the whole part where he sucks his heas into the shell when in danger. The painting looks good and you've managed to blend in the different animals well.

tschahri Go home, stupid.

Ghoulio Consistent sketchy (hard pencil strokes, you know what I mean) style, looks good. The floor looks like it's not completely horizontal 'cause of the pool of pee, flip the pic horizontally and you'll see what I mean, hard to explain with this poor english of mine.

Melis Good looking creature and the rendering is clean too, though it could use some work. Maybe more contrast in the values, and you've used the long brush strokes in every part of the body, different textures would definitely help a lot. The tusks also seem to be drawn from a completely different angle than the rest of the head. And joints are not perfect balls, reference should help you there. :)

Jack Nugget Nice textures here, in some parts this looks finished and good and in some parts like it's still wip, mainly because of how they blend and vanish into the white background.

Wazbot That's definitely something weird. :D I like how you've managed to compose the different parts together. Not sure if it'd really stay in balance though. I'd say cut off with the default brushes and textures (or I don't know if you made them yourself, but you can still tell them apart from the rest of the painting which is not a good thing).

SojuJoe A little smudgy and could use more defining in some parts, but a good start. Nice idea to give the orangutan head more eyes like spiders do.

acb The texture looks really nice and soft, you can tell the creature has some fur, but it has no form underneath whatsoever. Snakes have skeletons too, and in the future remember to use refence, because all of the legs and the head too seem to be drawn completely out of imagination and have little to none basis in real anatomy. I like the pose however, the snake part provides some good movement into the piece.

Faelic Well this one sure would grab people's attention if it existed in real life. I'm not sure though how the bones are supposed to go in it's legs, the front legs both seem to have joints in different places and from the hind legs I just can't tell. The colouring is really nice, love the texture and water colour look.

Marsch Haha, oh god. I have to say I love the pose here, very very dynamic. Brush strokes are a little messy in some parts but I'm sure you'll improve with practice. The creature itself looks like it has no idea what the hell is happening, love it. :D

Sketchius My favourite! Really good looking rendering and the colours are just right, clean but still painterly look on the whole piece. Love the light coming through his ears. Very sympathetic.

NakedZergling The iguana head looks good! The rabbit and the rat are kind of mixed together so that I had to read from the description there are more than just two animals in this, the middle part could've used some more referencing. But gotta love rodents with scales and as I said, the head looks nice.

Blonde Bomber I like the colours here (light blue, brown and red) and the head sure looks good. I wish you'd defined the body more so it would look less like a brown box with foot coming out from under it (sorry, exaggerating, but I hope you get what I mean). Love the tail.

Doomsquid Aww, poor fella. Clean style and nice outcome. Is he supposed to have no ears?

Michael Morisse Haha, wow. Good job on especially on the head and neck, and I love how the nest is made up of fish.

Izer You have some really, really good looking parts in this, the tortoise head for example. I wish you'd done the rest of the creature with the same patience, as the furry parts and part of the pig look too blurry in comparison.

SephyCloneNo15 Next time remember to use reference, makes a big difference in getting the anatomy right. And you don't have to paint every strand of grass to make it look like grass. ;) Clean colouring in the creature itself.

Crowsrock With the fast legs of a raptor, your creature shouldn't have to be afraid of cats at all. :D Nice job painting the feathers especially on the outer wing.

Darknight A little messy, this would benefit from cleaner surfaces to make it look less busy.

Arthur 'Two Sheds' This is one of my favourites too, killer rendering and the expression is hilarious. Reminds me of my friend's chihuahua...

Arteater Lovely creature. Maybe you could've defined more that it's underwater by adding air bubbles or something?

Mxlplxn I bet these guys jump high. :D It's a little smudgy at some parts, you could try avoiding that tool and just using the paint brush to do the blends.

Blackcherry That face scares me. :D A little more referencing when doing the front legs is what I'd say, they don't seem to have consistent anatomy.

Grandmassa Mr. Spect Wow, I like the idea. The painting itself is a little busy though, hard to decide where I should focus on looking.

Ecochran The same as I've said to a few others, you would really benefit referencing animal anatomy because this lacks the basis on which you can do the stylization. Cute though.

Jushra Love the "best and worst friend" part. The tentacles look good and the head too, would've loved to see the outcome if you'd defined the head some more.

Vorp Haha, what. :D The expression is priceless. The same though that I said to others before, there is none anatomical knowledge to be seen in the white part of the body, it seems to be drawn completely out of your head. Reference is the key.

Volscalkur I see octopusses are popular in this round. :D No black or white when doing the shadows and highlights, and this could use sharpier lines in some parts.

Dado Almeida What a clever idea, I must say! This is mostly a bit too blurry for my taste, but I think you've got the stylization down. Head looks good and I love the legs!

Michael Jaecks Can't wait to get back to the serious business of nitpicking! Seriously though, this round was fun, but still.

Ok, so this is my first CoW, and my first crits too. I'll try to find a good and bad for each :P I'm sure my crits will get more relevant when I've a few more digital paintings under my belt and I begin to know what I'm talking about.

Wall of text warning...:blahblah:

Gumish: I really like the idea of having the hands replaced by the other animals :). The cats head looks like its attached to the shoulder, if you moved it half a head width to the right it would look more attached.

grue: The expression on its face is great, as is the colour scheme, its looks smelly :D . I thought the head was all elephant until I read the text, maybe a different style of dog ear may have helped?

Clochette: I want one! It would make a great plush toy :) I'm struggling to find a bad on this one...

emerging: Really nice, another plush toy in the making :)

blobs: OMG its got no head! but it gets my vote :) had me in tears laughing...

benu: wow, thats freaking weird...but thats a good thing. It took a while to notice the snail foot on the tree, maybe a larger difference in colour between the tree trunk and snail foot would alleviate that.

tschahri: The animals are blended so nicely together, especially the zebra patterns running through the boar hair, great work. The only thing that bothers me is were the tongue exits the mouth just under the tusk...i dont know why but my eyes keep looking there for something.

ghoulio: he he, love him. the small details are great, the lumps around the neck, the bellybutton and penis :) even the nice crosshatch texture. I would love to see the head on a slight angle...but you might loose the attitude that comes with the icy stare.

Melis: Great choice of creatures very original, not many others went prehistoric. The image looks blurred, especially around the Tyrannosaurus legs tail, makes it hard to look at (or it could be me...ive stayed up way too late again).

Jack Nugget: I really like the toe nails...its weird, but I'm attracted to them! The ears need help, they seem really dissimilar to me.

sojujoe: That is a strangely disturbing animal! Orangutan hair is really long, much longer than these guys. The ones i saw at the zoo last week had hair hanging off their arms that could easily have been 20-30cm long.

faelic: Fun animal...but whats the 2% filler! I have to know!

Marsch: this is haunting. It looks like it was drawn the moment it fell off a cliff, and he's reaching out for you to catch him...not with that claw mister!

sketchius: more bats and turtles! but a great angle on it...in flight! Very dynamic pose, the texture and light on the turtle shell is gorgeous. downside? maybe the trees, but i hardly looked at them, was too busy looking at the light playing on the shell.

NakedZergling: I love the detail in the iguana's head and the rats tail, the little scales on the body are great. The body seems a little flat, maybe a light source to create some shadow? also, i cant tell were the rabbit bits are, it could be all rat/iguana.

MichaelMorisse: That red is so striking, and works so well in the composition, my eyes keep doing laps up and down it :) very nice animal.

Izer: The two heads are beautiful. The arms need a little more definition.

Crowsrock: I really like the feathers, the big bold brush strokes work really well. I think the mouse head could have been joined / melded / blended to the chicken body a little more.

Darknight: I like the concept, another hour or two on it and i could crit some more. Really interested in what you were going to do with sky.

Arthur 'Two Sheds': a close second for me! my mother has a dog that looks just like this, attitude and all. facial expression is great and the claws look really menacing. I want to see more done on the feet.

Arteater: I really like the colours, but the head seems very flat compared to the body. Another great reason to not go swimming :)

blackcherry: its just funny! that face cracks me up. It looks so proud, look what ive grown up to become! ha ha!

Grandmassa Mr. Spect: very cool style. I didn't like it at all to begin with, but the more i look at it, the more appealing I find it :) The boobies look a little out of place, but hey, they are boobs :)

Jushra: really nice, great little details spots etc.

vorp: How can a worm be so cute!

dadoalmedia: he he, very topical, very clever. The green fumes and slime are great. Close third for me :)

phew. Cya next week. :bounce:

Dado Almeida - I voted for the most brilliant and problematic idea in this times.

Michael Morisse
June 5th, 2009, 03:50 PM
I voted for benu. nice integration of three very different creatures and the snail part is funny.

grue nice design and rendering and fun idea. to me the dog gets a little lost.

Clochette really nice drawing style and color, I am a fan of your work. my only crit would be that if you take away the antlers it looks very much like an Elephant Shrew.

emerging nice design and rendering and great expression. my only crit would be that the overall body form is still very "bunny"

blobs great idea and execution. not a beastie I would want piss off.

Wasbot great imaginative design.

tschahri beautiful rendering and understanding of animal anatomy. I would like to be able to paint such subtile shades. My crit would be that the overall anatomy is very "wild boar" like and I want to see the chameleon colors.

sketchius cool design and great rendering. My crit would be to much cut and paste and not enough transition between the parts.

Izer Good drawing and painting, the design is a little confusing to me, I am not sure if the pig is hiding under the turtle or a part of it.

SephyCloneNo15 Good start, love the head but to me the cat part is lost.

Arthur Two Sheds love the crabby Chihuahua.

Arteater cool design and nice motion, I would like to se the cuddly Hamster part more pronounced against the other two.

Mxlplxn cool design and great composition

blackcherry very funny, integration of three very different animals.

Jushra very nice design and rendering, I want to see the rhino horn bigger and the dog part is a little lost.

Vorp really cute. do a children's book with him.

dadolameida very funny. would make a great magazine cover.

First off great job everyone, even those who didn't make it to the voting, the fact you were willing to participate in this odd round of COW says a lot, keep it up and hope to see you next round.

For those of you that commented on my piece directly I appreciate it, It's nice to have a artistic site that one can feel comfortable posting with out nonsense comments or flaming or the like. As for my entry, 2 days work, a bit rushed, more patience next time for sure and I'll take the crits from this and implement them in the future. Thanks for taking the time and here are some comments of my own (no crits though).

@gumish: Great work, I dig the toonish style you used, what happens when it eats its own hands?

@grue, pretty fun concept, poor luck on it's part for bein born, the fur came out expecially well, good job.

@Clochette, odd ombination for sure, nice, simple, clean, well done.

@Emerging, i didn't notice the frog lets till just now, interesting mix of animals, very funny expression but follows your description well. Well done.

@s.a.r, I'm still trying to fingure out what is on its back(the black stuff), nice render of the rooster parts mixed with the squirel.

@blobs, I like the tiger part of it, although each part is good, but over all a different take then most of us and very funny to boot. Great job.

@benu, Pretty cool idea going on there, the lower half of the creature looks really good, neat mix over all.

@tschahri, the boar head is really good, detailed with out bein too detailed I'd say, and the hair on the top looks awesome with the zebra stripes.

@Ghoulio, My vote went to you, the creature over is just fun and mixed with his urinating and the little flag made it that much more comical, great job.

@Melis..., I liked the fact you used extincted creatues to make up your creature, and the play on the abilities is fun. Good job.

@Jack Nugget, Actually a pretty scary mix of formitable creatures you have put together, but the insane and a bit goofy look it has gives it a fun less threatening feel to it.

@Wazbot, I'll admit i laughed a bit at seeing yours, the fish face is awesome.

@SojuJoe, Very beleivable creature, a real spider monkey but with a pig tail, nice.

@acb, That's a very odd mix, i think that alone makes it all the more amusing, good job.

@faelic, It has that goofy pointer dog/ deer in the head lights look to it, good job.

@Marsch, Cute and funny, faceplam is rite. Good work.

@sketchius, The over all render is great, I really like how you did your turtle shell. Good job.

@NakedZergling, Nice name btw, god mix of creatures, the Iguana parts came out well.

@Blonde Bomber, Sea and land animals unite in a strange arrangement of a creature, very creative idea.

@Doomsquid, First off welcome to ca.og, Well done for your first post on ca.org and the COW, cute creature, It has that bambi ''I can't stand up'' goofy look to it, hope to see more from you, good job.

@Michael Morisse, Neat mix, I like it's demeanor, colors are well done as well, great job.

@SephyCloneNo15, Another cool mix of water and land, funny description and while looking at it, I don't think it would be funny if ''Horny'' did it's thing...Good job.

@Crowsrock, I'd think the cat would be afraid of it for sure, funny mix of creatures and a mean little thing. Good job.

@Darknight, That would make a pretty interesting pet for sure, nice work.

@Arthur 'Two Sheds', All i can hear while looking at that thing is those Chihuahua's horendice barks..., but unlike those little dogs this one looks liek it packs a bite, but still I think I'd laugh at it first, well done.

@Arteater, Pretty neat concept, I don't know if i've ever seen a furry shark, nice job though.

@Mxlplxn, Nice over all illustration, you can really get the Idea you're in the air with it, sure is a long way down, nice mix as well, maybe wings mite help.

@LEO, That monkey's face is great, just over all goofy, nice job.

@Grandmassa Mr. Spect., Nice style and take on this cow, weird looking thing but still funny looking, well done.

@ecochran, That's one funny looking pet, no doubt it would be all the rage, nice work.

@Jushra, Have to say i realy like the coloring job here, cool mix as well.

@Vorp, Thats a priceless expression on your Vurmcock, and a useful little guy too, well done.

@Volscalkur, Crazy and a bit insane looking little creature. Another creature with a memorable expression. Nice.

@Dado Almeida, Nasty but amusing creature.

thank you for the comments everyone! I was worried the bunny/rat would read too close. The middle was supposed to be a rabbit with only the ass and tail actually being the rat. I did in fact spend a LOT of time on the head, and tried some new ways of laying out color than i normally would(there's blues and reds and whatnot in there)
I really had a rough time with the fur. Anyone have tips on how to make fur look better? especially on something short haired?

Hey, thanks for the welcome and feedback guys! I'll be posting some feedback tomorrow when I'm not about to fall asleep on my keyboard...

This being my first COW, I posted it earlier than necessary, (thought I had to post by 12:00 am Wednesday). I'll be sure to spend the extra time on further passes in the future! Not to mention I should remember the ears next time I draw a moose -- x_x

I'm really pumped for Shadow and Flame!

I am now making an effort to check these out every week - maybe one day I will have the confidence to give them a go myself ;)

Emerging got my vote this week. I love the concept, when I first saw it, it actually made me laugh out loud, and then I read the description and it was cemented for me. Great integration with the animals and was beautifully rendered, thank you :)

sojujoe - I thought your creature was cute, yet creepy at the same time if that's possible.

sketchius - I loved the integration, I thought it was just beautiful and very nicely rendered in action.

vorp - took me by surprise when I saw it, it's very cute, and I love those feet!

I think for some of the entries the comical side got a bit lost which was a shame, but there were some fantastic and very unlikely animal combinations that turned up, which I loved seeing - so very creative to think to use them all together :)

Voted for Emerging.
The expression of that creature is great!

Unfortunately I have only one vote. There other chimeras I really liked, naming only a few here:

the works of Blobs, Arthur 'Two sheds', Sketchius.
Great round! Lets get to the next one!

"I have to admit I donīt like to write in my bad english too much, because sometimes I can be misunderstanding as rude. Please tell me if I sound arsh in some of my comments. :-)"

Anyway. That one was hard, because thereīs more than 3, 4 pro entries ihmo. But just to keep straight in the brief "comical and quimeras" I had to choose one that concern both of that aspects.

Gumish
The most funny idea is your Gumish, but as a COW piece I think youīd have to unify more your animals in a different creature.

Clochette
Just have to admit you have a beautiful line and color work. I wish to be confident in my drawings like yours looks. Congrats!

Emerging
Got my vote bro! Nice rendered and very comical to me. I almost fell that angry (in personallity) and weak (in proporstions) creature.

Blobs
Youīre a pro Blog, your brushwork and lights in that one really deserve an aprreciation, but like Gumish, I just think as a creature it isnīt well conceptualized. Hope you understand my point of view.

Benu
If the word "comical" were out of the brief Iīd choice yours first. Believable creature, but you miss the funny part of the theme. Anyway. You did great.

Faelic
Great you finished this one in time. Keep posting in COW.

Sketchius
Another great concept (believable and nice rendered) but the comical part is missing. Congratulations.

Arthur 2 Sheds
I had a pinscher (looked like your dog) and I really know how funny and angry that puppies are. Like it too.

Mxlplxn and Vorp
Both of you creatures has the sort of think that make it "pleasure" to look. Thereīs something of fantasy in their world that trespass the drawing. As a whole I canīt choose yours, but Iīd like to see you guys in other COWs.

ps.: if I donīt comment a work it just because I think I donīt have much more to add in that momment. Ok?

ps2.: thanks for the choices and kind words. Gonna try push harder to finally get a first (and well deserved) spot in COW. ;-)

tschahri- thx alot for your crit ^_^ i know about all of those issues but as i said in my posting i didnt had alot of time to invest in it so i didnt look up on all of the details but i will (hopefully ^_^ ) next time :D thx again

izer- thx for your crit ^_^ well i kinda knew i had to combine a panda with something (cuz love pandas ^_^) so just thought on this weird combo but near the "end" phaze of this drawing i realized that i took care of the design and animals but didnt took care of the comical part at all so im happy that at least the very combination was abit comical ^_^
thx again :D

Don't give up though! Personally I've stepped back into just commenting and voting for the last few months and it is a nice community, plus I'm hoping being able to work out what doesn't appeal to me about some of the awesome artists' pics will help me improve my own.

Gumish I can see this one in a Sunday paper comic strip :)
I like it, although I would've preferred to have seen you mix up the body parts more.. but yep, it goes with your concept, so all good :)

Grue There are some very subtle brush marks and colours in this, I like that alot. Next time round I'd like to see more definition of the body.

Clochette Love it, love your style, I've nothing to crit, you would've been my second vote :)

Emerging FTW, excellent concept and great expression! You're my winner!

s.a.r Nice drawing, good to see some solid anatomy. But this guy doesn't look very fearsome as in your idea.

Benu I love the lighting on this Benu. I can't wait to see your next cow as your painting looks to be working nicely. I'd watch how you place your animal parts together, I know it's not cut and pasted, but it does look it in places, the bat-snail head in particular.. good stuff! :)

tschahri Love it, subtle, great shapes, I can see this living in the real world, t'is a beauty :)

Ghoulio Haha, excellent!! :D

Melis LOL, love the idea, I'm not sure the image does the description credit though. I would love to see some texture on the skin/flesh and a greater tonal range. Add little details (something I keep forgetting to do) to make it more interesting.. tschahri's is a great example of textures and markings.

Jack Nugget Looks like something out of Mario! :)
More detail and observing of anatomy needed I reckon. :)

Wazbot Hehehe, very cool, I'm not overly keen on the scale texture, but it does work.. so I'll shut my mouth now :)

sojujoe Very comical and nice idea. I was confused the first time that I saw this. The abdomen of the main creature looked like a cave in the background. I think you could do with more rendering on this.

acb I like the lighting and the fun on the front leg and head, but the neck area looks very flat to me.
Cool creature :)

Faelic I love the style and rendering of his head, I'm not sure that quality of rendering or design was followed through with his body though.

Marsch There's a lovely flow to this pose! But where is the lighting and shadows from the water? He looks to me like he's falling in air rather than swimming.

Sketchius I'm surprised you haven't got more votes! Joint second for me

NakedZergling Very cool, push the painting for the next cow! :)

Blonde_Bomber That's one nasty beast :)

Doomsquid Cool viewing angle, and nicely coloured giraffe legs! :)

Michael_Morisse I just love those loose feathers and the fish nest, another joint second.. brilliant :)

Izer Cool stuff Izer, very smooth painting, almost airbrushy.

SephyCloNo15 Excellent head and eyes, more rendering next time please!

Crowsrock Excellent stuff! :)

Darknight I think you've gone overboard with the textured brushes on this one and it doesn't look finished to me. I'd like to see you nail your creature at the drawing phase before starting the paint.

Arthur_'Two_Sheds' Another winner, I love your colour and light.. lots to learn from this, another joint second for me.

Arteater He's in the water! :) I like it, although watch your forms, his head is looking very thin. The lower and right part of his body is excellent!

Mxlplxn Nice work, could do with more rendering I think. :)

Blackcherry Good combination, good anatomy, good :)

Grandmassa Mr. Spect. Nice idea, nice boobies ;)
Good face, although it does look like a filtered photo to me, not saying it is though. Interesting use of textures! :)

ecochran Cool.. I can here him going 'choo choo!' ;) I really like it, but more rendering (jeez I'm repeating myself!)

Jushra Oh yeah. looking good, again I would've loved to have seen you work into this guy a bit more, he has lots of potential.

vorp Haha, excellent, cool tail feathers and wormy parts :).. more finish next time please! :)

volscalkur Hehehe, I laughed when I read and saw this. Very good :)

dadoalmedia Hehe, excellent brush work and lighting! :)

Phew I'm knackered.. and thanks to everyone who has voted for me :)

Wish I could give more than one vote, but as I can't my vote went to:

blobs: I loved this, such a crazy concept with a great description to go with it! Made me laugh :D

-------
This was my first COW, seems like it was for quite a few people. Thanks to everyone who’s commented on my work, it's nice to get feedback! Great entries everyone! :)

Gumish: Funny concept, which will likely result in self destruction, lol!

grue: Nice design. I think you captured the different textures of the animals well. I like the fur.

Clochette: Simple but effective design. I like the colours.

emerging: This one is so cute, the chosen animals have been combined together well and the expression is great! I wanted to vote for this one too.

benu: An ugly creature but well put together and coloured. I really like the snail element, makes it very interesting particularly the head.

tschahri: I this could have been better with some colour but aside from that I really like the design!

ghoulio: I don't think the background sets the creature off well which I think lets the design down a little because the creature is nicely drawn and coloured.

Melis: A strange and weird design. Like the expression. Maybe the pose could have been slightly different so the right front leg wasn't partly obscured?

Jack Nugget: I like his grin. I think the different body textures could be expressed better.

Wazbot: This is cool, I like the combination of animals. Good highlights on the body.

sojujoe: I like the additional baby versions with your design. Could have had a longer creature description.

faelic: Interesting design. It has a nice watercolour and ink feel to it.

Marsch: Like the pose and expression, looks like he's in a whirlpool and needs help hehe. I particulalrly like the face.

sketchius: Great Design! I really like the detail on the creature. I also like the background, it's simple but you've portrayed the clouds and trees really well. I think the face is a bit too dark, makes it hard to see the features clearly. Also I think it would look better if you captures all the creature in the frame rather than chopping half of the left wing.

NakedZergling: Well drawn design. I really like the lizard element, the scales are great!

Michael Morisse: This is great, I love the chicken legs! I also love the fur and feathers you've
captured them well.

Izer: Interesting combination. I really like the turtle head/tail, it has good detail.

Crowsrock: Like the charging expression on the mouse. Good detail on the legs.

darknight: A bit hard to make out due to the style of colouring. Could have more defined linework or a clearer style of colouring to set the design off more effectively.

Arthur 'Two Sheds': I look at this and I expect the creature to start fighting, lol, not sure why! Love the colours, expression and combination of creatures. This also would have got my vote if I had more than one.

Arteater: Great design. I like the colouring, particularly the body texture.

Grandmassa Mr. Spect: A colourful design. I like the lady bird idea. Some sections may be a bit 'busy'

Jushra: Nice colours and 'doggy' expression with the tongue hanging out.

vorp: A fun design. Love the expression on the worm. I like the peacock tail and the butterflies too.

dadoalmedia: A very funny looking creature, I really like the pose and colouring. Not sure about the background.

I'm voting for tschahri. I like how original it looks and also how you played around with proportions. nice work!

also, thanks to tschahri, Izer and blobs for your comments on my chimera. I will definately keep what you guys said in mind, and also, i'll spend some more time on future entries.
