i am 15, so i got alot of experience writing (still bad spelling tho) so you would think my motor skils would be better, but i have to spend 10 seconds or more just to draw a short, straight line. any way to cure this? fix it?

In my oppinion, although I'm just a learner myself, don't. Take a pencil, and start drawing - 95% is not really motor skills, but its knowledge and observing skills.

At least, thats the way I perceived it. And I've got downright horrible motorics most of the time - it hasn't mattered all too much so far.

As for being left handed, for all I know no biggy either. Just when you use materials prone to being smirched all over the place, be sure to not set your hand on areas where it could make a mess while drawing (but we righties have the same problem, so feh).

lots of practice would help, and drawing with your entire arm instead of only using your wrist helps too (mentioned here i think http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12548)

my art teacher thought my class was too rigid in drawing, so he made us draw with a string and black ink for a day :)

I wish I had your art teacher. Mine is the exact oppisite.

Yes, hold your pencil like a toothbrush to the paper. It helps alot, even to us 15 year-olds. :p
